I think the LDS church is like the tobacco companies. They see a need to find "replacement smokers" through advertising the same way the church sees a need for replacement marks through the missionaries. Just like the tobacco company knows its smokers can't live forever, the church knows people will not believe the con forever, especially with the invention of the internet. For instance, they managed to dupe me for 5 years, but they will seek replacements. However, the con in both cases is only designed to last temporarily.
Just like the occasional habitual smoker is in denial about the harmfulness of his habit, there is always the occasional person like the posters on here that continue defending the church despite something like the Fulton deal being exposed on here. With the marks in denial, the occasional dupe like I was, and the ones that haven't learned the truth yet they can keep the con going, and as long as that goes on the LDS church may last perpetually, just like the tobacco companies.
For instance, everyone knows cigarettes kill you eventually, yet why are the tobacco companies still in business? Because they can get temporary recruits who will either die eventually or learn the truth about the product and quit. In the same way, as long as the LDS church can find more temporary marks it will continue. The only way we can stop its evil is by educating the public on the truth about its leaders and the scam that it is. Just like we will never get rid of the cigarette makers until we educate the public about the dangers of smoking.
That said, until this mass education happens, we may never see the end of the LDS church or Mercury's last step.
How to con people out of their money and get away with it
