Please ignore this. You probably aren't reading it anyways. Kudos for that too.

Ceeboo,

That is the main tower of the COB complex. It is full of staff that run the mother ship. People like attorneys, accountants, editors, work there.

Thanks Zee!

Interesting!

I don't know why I am surprised by the picture (perhaps my ignorance)
but it is way way bigger then I would have imagined.

by the way, it is in Salt Lake, yes?

Yep, SLC. Here's an image of The Temple, COB and The Hotel Utah.

Maybe this is just a result of photographic perspective, or maybe I am over-sensitive - but both the COB and the Hotel Utah seem to me to be massive acts of architectural disrespect to the Temple. They are simply out of scale with it in a way that makes it look quite diminished.

If this effect is real, was it ever discussed when plans for these new buildings were tabled? Did no one speak up in favor of structures more in keeping with a building that most people in SLC presumably hold to be sacred?

I am trying, and failing, to imagine what would happen if the Roman Catholic church, an organization that is huge in comparison with the CoJCoLDS, proposed to put up anything as obtrusive in view of St Peter's in Rome.

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

Thanks Quasi!

Again, I am not sure why, but these pictures of the COB are blowing my mind.

I am so curious about it now.

Perhaps I will start a new thread to ask all my questions.

No perspective effect in that image. The Temple is pretty small in comparison. Look at the size of the windows in each respective building. I've heard a lot of jokes about the Church's priorities reflected in the size of the buildings.

What in the past should the church confront? Polygamy? The polygamy story is one of faith. The LDS church can certainly make it into a story of faith and sacrifice, if they wish to make it so. Give it up zee. Just move on and enjoy your new life. Forget about family members who are still in the church and are happy to be there and just love them and enjoy picnics and gatherings together.

Maybe all religions should confront their very human past. Maybe the american people should confront their own country's past. A lot of maybes.

The polygamy story is one of faith??? Get serious. The polygamy story is not told by the the COB. They are ashamed by it. Joseph Smith's one big revelation, and they are ashamed by it. The correlation committee sees that the polygamy story is suppressed. The LDS church has thrown all the woman who made the polygamy sacrifice under the bus. They don't even acknowledge their existence. Check LDS.org if you don't believe me. This is at best disingenuous. God's one true church can't even be truthful about its past? What a joke.

Yes, the money I donated in good faith without understanding that it would be used to fund shopping malls, commercial hunting reserves, financial services companies etc etc whilst the people in need have to rely on additional member contributions.
