Doctor Scratch,
I was wondering whether you could help me figure something out here. Jskains registered a very unflattering domain name, "mormonssuck.com" and tried to sell it for loads of money. Right? So, who was it, do you think, that he thought might have
so much money, and would be motivated to buy up this domain name from him? The LDS Church? And, if it was the LDS Church, why would jskains want to bilk his own church out of so much money? It all looks so slimy to me. Surely there is a reasonable explanation that does not involve jskains taking advantage of his beloved LDS Church!
Wow, yes, you're right, Rev. Kishkumen. This is a probing and revelatory analysis that you've provided here. As the top Mopologetics scholar, I can really see only two possibilities:
1. Jskains was a gullible idiot and he bought into the FARMS authors' (esp. Louis Midgley's) assertions about the "Old Cash Nexus" and the silly and unsupportable claims about anti-Mormon ministries having a ton of money. For this to be true, though, it would mean that jskains had actually read through a whole article in
FARMS Review, and since we know with virtual 100% certainty that he's never done such a thing, we can move on to conjecture 2, which is---
2. He was trying to bilk the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints out of money. I suppose he could claim that he was doing the Church a "favor" by snagging the domain name, but if his intent really was purely charitable, you would have expected him to hand over the domain for free to either the Church or something like the More Good Foundation. (Gee, if he'd done that, maybe we wouldn't have gotten the cold shoulder after trying to volunteer w/ FAIR.) And that's not what he was doing. His calculus w/r/t to the site was done based on the price of homes in the tony La Jolla, CA area. So one gets the impression that jskains wanted the Church to buy him a huge, ritzy house in La Jolla.
