I think this is a fair indication of how many Utah members now know the truth. Paying 10% for living something that you know to be a lie will cause stress...

If I did not have a small child to raise, and we had the opportunity, I would relocate to NYC in New York minute!

Finances are the other major reason we have stayed put. The cost of living is just extremely high in NY. The company my husband works for recently made some major changes. The center here in Greensboro shut down, and many employees were relocated by the company. Based on his position in IT management, he had the option of either working from home or relocating to one of the remaining centers. New York was among the choices. We actually thought seriously about it. Both of us are very into the arts, and the food and culture in the New York area has a lot of appeal for both of us. We both agreed that if we didn't have a 7 year old with special needs in school, it would be very tempting. But we would likely be paying what we are paying for our current home mortgage for a decent one bedroom apartment in Manhattan! LOL Again, if we were empty nesters, we would probably go for it.
Interestingly enough, even though there is another center in Utah, neither of us were really that thrilled about that possible option. LOL
Crowded, dirty, smelly. A sewer with tall buildings and way too many people. It is good some live there as it keeps other areas from being too crowded.
Wait til a decent quake hits and you will see tragedy in the midst of this 'civilized' enclave. Murder, riots, theft and all kinds of problems will happen.
Utah is not the answer either, too many Mormons.

You do not have to adopt a defensive posture on the streets of Salt Lake, nor have to fear eye contact with others. No garbage strikes either. They have regular houses in Salt Lake too, with garages that do not charge for parking. No mutant alligators in the sewers, although there is always the Giant Brine Shrimp and Sea Gull.
