MAYBE park city but even that would suck....I grew up in DC, went to BYU and couldn't get out of utah fast enough...I loved the mountains and the proximity to outdoor activities but, right now, I live in a place that I can surf, mountain bike and ski in the same day if I want and I am never leaving...Look at colorado...You can be closer to her family without having to live in utah which, for me, would be pure hell as I did not enjoy living there...

I don't think Park City would suck, that would a nice place to live. The LDS in Park City know they are outnumbered, so they act different. In fact being outnumbered was actually brought up once during Church while I was attending a ward in Park City.

Heber might be a tough, though I do know there are houses available in a nice neighborhood in Heber, just up from the Burger Place that has a train, can't remember the name.

It would take a substantial pay raise to get me to move to Utah. Substantial. And none of it could be in any way associated with tithing.

I love utah, low crime rates, clean cities, incredible mountains, great outdoor activities, solid 4 seasons. I would never want to leave.

I like visiting Utah. I can't imagine a worse torture than living there. I suppose it depends on what criteria is used to find a comfortable place to live.

Hello,

Hrm. That's a tough one. I have family there, but eff me it's cold. The six to eight months of crappy weather is tough to take.

Lostindc,

I was raised in Utah but no longer live there. There are areas of Utah I would return to immediately and there are areas of Utah I would not. I love everywhere from Brigham City north to Logan, and from Spanish Fork south to Nephi along the Wasatch front. I would not move to Salt Lake City, and if I did, it would have to be as close to the mountains as possible. West Valley City is the DC of Utah (in a bad way). Just my opinion.

Do you know what the economic comparision is between what your salary in DC can buy compared to Utah? It seems getting rid of a 45 minute commute (each way? if so, wow!) would have an impact by itself.

My comment beyond this is - if you like being outdoors, Utah is amazing if you live in the right places. If you love "club hopping" and cultural events, no place in Utah will compare to the DC area I suspect. I think how much someone likes Utah varies for everyone, no matter what you feel about the church. My experience is everyone who drinks alchohol hates the state drinking laws - unless they have lived in a dry county in the South. The few people I knew from dry counties in Alabama and Kentuky thought Utah was alright by comparision. If you don't drink, you might find it interesting but alright that the local Smith's doesn't have a large "spirits" section. ;)
