I have an "Observer" type personality; kind of like Jane Goodall and her apes. I "observe" human behavior very closely. I also "inquire" quit abit, ask people questions. Ask bishops questions. Ask ex-Mormons questions. I tend to get a lot if information that way.

So you watch the "apes" but never join in the fun?

What ever happened to Youth Conference?

Nothing less than this.

Thanks Stak, I just upchucked my dinner and desert after watching that clip. I didn't know know that Mormon leadership had sunk that low on the cheese factor. I feel so greasy after watching it. What a slick and contrived (wholly unauthentic) production that was.

In the Toronto region, Youth Conference is still held. It's a much better deal - same content as EFY but only costs $70 for 4 days.

And for your amusement, from the EFY FAQ:

If my son’s hair only covers part of his ears, can he still attend EFY?

Yes. Male participants must have their hair cut above the collar, and part of the ears must be visible without altering their hair. This means that sweeping the bangs to one side or tucking the hair behind the ears or otherwise styling the hair to make it look like it doesn’t cover the ears is unacceptable. However, if at least part of the ear is visible without altering the hair, your son will be allowed to attend. Please err on the side of conservatism to avoid an uncomfortable situation for your son or the counselor.

My question: If my son's ears are naturally hairy, can he still attend EFY?

They don't realize that the SOLUTION is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and not talks about "commitment" and Scripture reading.

Men and women don't "change" until they first FEAR the judgments of God. Mormon women have no fear. Mormon men have no fear. The Church does NOT teach them to fear God's wrath. No fear....no conversion.

He had a great time doing this as well as the teens as they had many fun teenage activities and only about 25% of it was dedicated to scripture reading, journal writing, sharing his missionary experience, testimony meetings and doctrinal discussions (week long event).

Well my friend heard from his son again about this years EFY. It seems as if most of the emphasis in EFY is about 75% based on religious matters and a small amount dedicated to teens having traditional fun teenage activities. Each teen is asked to commit to a life of religious service and dedication throughout their life's.

Is this typical of EFY or is it just some overzealous people running a few of these EFY's?

Nothing says priestcraft like cashing in on your church callings.

Mormon youth must be starved for entertainment if they're impressed by that, though.

Barfola!! I could only stand a minute and a half of that.

That's too bad, because the best part starts at 2:25.

That video has 10,000 views, and I'm afraid 5,000 of those are probably from me. I would give anything to talk to the people who put that production on to find out what the heck they were thinking.

I went to EFY for four years (88-91) with different stakes and wards and groups of friends, and it was always a really good time. And it was definitely 80% "fun", 20% "church". Thursday nights were always the "spiritual" night where they pulled out all the stops. But in general, it was all about the girls, the dances, the food, the talent show, and the outdoor "olympics".

One of my favorite classes was on "music", and the teacher played the popular Madonna videofrom that summer and tried to show us how immoral it was. He kept pausing it on shots of Madonna dancing around in her underwear, and the guys would go "Whoo-ooo!", and then he'd accidentally pause it on the sexy shirtless dude, and the girls would go "Whoo-ooo!". It was a total disaster.

Giggle. I think I'll wait until I have fasted for four hours. That should protect me from having to clean the puke off of my keyboard.
