Re: Why is it so hard for me to have a beard?
Years ago my wife's parents joined us on vacation. We were 1000 miles away from Salt Lake enjoying the Pacific Ocean. There wasn't a Mormon church for over 100 miles in any direction.
FIL was a veil worker at the time. Until then he had always had a mustache. When he became a veil worker, he was instructed to shave. He obeyed.
On vacation for two weeks, he let his mustache grow back out the first week. I complimented him that it was good to see it back. You could see the struggle to obey church leaders - even 1000 miles away from HQ. It got the best of him and a couple days later he shaved it with overwhelming feelings of guilt, even though he had almost a week before returning to Salt Lake.
The cult control is strong, even at a distance.
Facial hair isn't about being clean, or being a hippy, or social whatever. It's about control.
Mormonism is always about control.

I knew a "rocker" in high school that used to wear one of those. Do you listen to Metallica?
Hell no, I don't! Mine is a pretty floral one. See here: http://www.amazon.com/Pentacle-Goddess- ... 926&sr=8-8

But it isn't a cult, dammit! Can't call it a cult! That's just being inflammatory.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Oh, and my daughter likes it too.
Done deal. Next time I post a shirtless picture of me mowing the lawn on Sunday, I will have a beard. Get ready!
My gosh, I don't think that I can take this anymore. My former branch president would wear a beard and then shave it off. No one cared if he had a beard or not. This was the same for the previous branch president. No one care about a beard. My friend is in the bishopic and he wears a beard. No one cares in church. No one bothers to be concerned. I think zee that you are playing this victim card too much. You are not a victim except in your own mind. No one cares if you sport a beard or not. Now your parents are your parents and they will have their opinions. But really zee, people, including Mormons, are in such do-do these days, that very few if any will care if you are growing a beard.

Nonsense. I have known bishops and branch presidents who have had beards. No one cared a rats piss about it. I have seen members with facial hair, no one cared in church about it. I have seen no cult like behavior. Maybe some people here are projecting their own biasness onto the Mormons.

You're not from Utah County, are you? Ever been to BYU? Did you even read Runtu's story about being turned away from the testing center because he hadn't shaved since...that morning?! You can't really believe the idiocy you spout here on this board, can you? Oh, and your avatar offends me. You should be forced to change it. It makes me feel sick and queasy whenever I see it. You should have to use an image that won't offend the sensibilities of the apostates who frequent this board.

You're in trouble! As you can see from my recent avatar change that I'm sporting a rapidly graying beard.
I shaved it off a couple of years ago and both my wife and mother complained. I'm stuck with it. I guess the more of my face that is covered, the better I look.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

LOL, yes that must be it! I do remember hearing complaints after shaving it last time... now that you mention it. my wife would also like to see me dressed like Darcy (refer to Jane Austen) with the high collar and long sleeves. I think the less she sees of my actual body, the better!
