Jesus was married to the women according to LDS doctrine. I would want to meet my wife first after being resurrected.

Mary Magdalene is called "the apostle to the apostles", because of the commandment given to her to go and tell the others what you have seen. She is also called "Friend of God".
It is a question of "choseness", which can be asked in a lot of situations. It is a question that can only be answered by God, and what is, can only be accepted by us as God's Will.
IMNHO, I think LDS have issues with this certain choseness because in the LDS mind-set, everything should be male first, and for some reason, if it isn't, it's about motherhood.
Jesus Christ revealed Himself as the Messiah to many people before His death and resurrection, including a Samaritan woman, which was breaking all kinds of social taboos just for the fact that He, a Jew, was talking a Samaritan woman who was living with a man, but unmarried...alone.
The message in this is many, but one that is clear is that Salvation is for everyone, and doesn't know the borders that we place around things based on our own ideas of social correctness.
Peace.

This was one of the most interesting passages to me in my recent New Testament reading...

I don't know why only women were the first to see the resurrected Jesus, but I do like just me's take on that. We tend to look at the "scenes" in the Bible for deeper meaning, demonstration of a concept at work or life application.
I do want to say that the fact that women are reported to have been the first witnesses to the risen Christ, makes the account appear more credible.

I'm wondering why you say this. I know why I say this, but more interested in why you say this.

Actually, it is not LDS doctrine. It is LDS speculation. There is no official LDS canon confirming this.
The speculation I agree with, however, is that Jesus and Mary Magdelene were married.
And yes, it does make sense that he would want to see her first.

Oh boy, I hope this isn't a test!
I think that if those who gave the Gospel accounts wanted to "beef up" their case or if the accounts were truly fictionalized, they would have had someone in a position of authority meet up with the resurrected Christ and definitely someone male such as one of the disciples, other religious leader or even a politician.
Instead, we have females who enjoyed no authority nor high social standing in that culture, encounter the risen Christ.
In other words, no "name dropping" involved.
Pass/Fail--what say you?

Hoops,
I had a thought. No really. :-)
If I really wanted to fabricate a story that would have an astounding effect on the public at large, I would have had Pilate encounter the risen Christ first.
Now that, would have been an Nancy Grace "bombshell" moment!
:-D
(I mean, like who are you gonna believe, the guy that signed his death warrant or some schmuck Jersey Girl type?)

I could never disagree with you, Jersey Girl. Except for that time you said, "Hoops, is an arrogant SOB who needs to be tossed off this board in such a way that she is never on the internet again." I only marginally disagreed with you there.
I completely agree with your statemtent above. I think it's significant that mary was the first. in fact, I think it had to occur this way. mary would have recognized Him (after He spoke), it gives women support for their status within the church (regardless of how well we have achieved that), and it makes for a great story. Nothing wrong with that.
Let's imagine, for a moment, if one of those male buffoons (I say this in Christian love)had been the first to see Him. There still may not be a church. :) Remember when Peter and John were fighting about which would have the most authority in The Kingdom? Shoot, they might have come to blows trying to decide who would first spread the news about the resurrection.

I've had one of those before. It's been years, but I think I remember.I had a thought. No really. :-)
Priceless!! I had never considered that, but that certainly would make for a better story. If I really wanted to fabricate a story that would have an astounding effect on the public at large, I would have had Pilate encounter the risen Christ first.
I love schmuck Jersey Girl types. They make life most interesting of all. :)Now that, would have been an Nancy Grace "bombshell" moment!
