If you have a PC, a Mac, or a cell phone, you can read the book on those.

You can also read it on their cloud site. The apps are free.

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded... no need to wait for the wife's birthday to come. (Actually, buying her a Kindle seems kind of silly now. Oh well)

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I'm happy with the way the book turned out. It was a big step for me to finally publish it because it was something important to me that I shelved because of pressure from other people. Now it's out, and it will have to speak for itself.

It's nice to know that people who have given the book a chance have enjoyed it. Three people from my mission have reviewed it and said it brought back memories and emotions they hadn't dealt with in a while. I guess that's a good thing. My wife's cousin, who is an active, believing Mormon married to an LDS military chaplain, said she loved it. She had never been on a mission, and her sons didn't serve, but she felt like she had a better understanding of the missionary experience.

I don't expect it to be a big seller, but I'm glad I published it. It felt good to get it out there, and it feels even better to know that it's getting a good reception.

Does anyone know anything about publishing in hardcopy? Several people have asked for a print version, but when I tried to publish it a few years ago, no one wanted it, and I doubt things will have changed. I know there are some self-publishing places, such as Lulu, but I'm trying not to spend any money, as Christmas is coming up.I'd appreciate any advice.

I had written off this place a while back because it seemed like every time I was here, a few people kept reappearing and trying to get under my skin. Maybe they did a little, but I'm not going to let the bastards drag me down. I noticed that the whole "Wheat" melodrama has resurfaced both here and, I hear, on the board that shall not be named. In case anyone is wondering, no, I am not going to get into that again.

I really enjoyed what I have read so far. I grew up in the same area you did and served a South American mission, so many of the things you talk about are very familiar to me.

I don't have a Kindle so I hope you will be able to get it published in a hard bound version somehow. (I wonder if soft cover might be easier to get done?)

Thank you. I'm glad you could relate to it and have enjoyed it. My goal was just to write what happened and what I was doing and feeling and thinking at that time. I figure readers can make up their own mind what to get from my book, and so far, I've been happy with the response. Only one person has expressed hostility, and he hasn't read it.

A lot of people have asked about a hardcopy edition. I plan on doing one as soon as I have some money to do it. Part of the reason I published it in the first place is that finances are tight (two kids in college and nine months of medical expenses will do that), and I thought I could sell 50 copies or so, and that would help.

I wonder if there are any living descendents of Martin Harris about?

Good to see you, Runtu. I've enjoyed what I have read of your book as well. I served in South America in the late '80's and your book has brought back a lot of memories for me too.

My wife plans to read your book so she can gain a little perspective on what a mission is like. I'll let the kids read it. We are out of the church so I will be the only one who will have a mission experience. I've told the kids that I will send them on a walk about instead of a mission if any of them want to go.

Congrats on the publication, Runtu!

My biggest question at this point is: Will it be reviewed by FARMS?

I sincerely doubt it. It's not anti-Mormon, and it doesn't have anything to do with apologetics. It's just the story of what happened on my mission.
