Whatever it is in transformers these leaked into the streets and they dammed up the chemicals in the gutter with dirt behind McDonald's across from Smith's on Highway 89.

Polychlorinated biphenyls... PCB's. Used in older transformers. Really bad stuff. Skin reactions, liver damage and birth defects.

If you have a dog, Night, don't walk him near the downed transformers.

I think they stopped putting PCBs in transformers in the late 70's or early 80's. If they have all been replaced, then no worries.

My guess is that there are many of the old ones still out there. I think they will be replacing them only when they fail.

I guess the point is, why take a chance?
