What I really find disturbing is that Dr. Peterson stated over and over on this very board that he believes the church should be more forthcoming with its history. Now, unless I understand incorrectly, he is arguing the exact opposite. Mainly that the intellectual infants that are chapel Mormons cannot risk looking into the vast rabbit hole, here-to known as "level B".
It says a lot about the leadership of the church and people like Dr. Peterson that they are openly encouraging people to bury their head's in the sand for their own good. Dr. Peterson had a golden opportunity with his column in the Deseret News to set the record straight and be more forthcoming, instead he is opting to follow the brethren and protect those poor innocent chapel Mormons. And they wonder why chapel Mormons see them as condescending and a threat to the church.
It is my province to teach to the Church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent.

I don't think that's what Daniel argues in his article.

Come on, DrW. Let's be fair. Joseph Smith did not become a serial adulterer until after he was called as a prophet.

It's an awkwardly written article. Peterson paraphrases the justification by Stanley kimball for only teaching level A information (We would lose souls on level B). But Peterson himself doesn't comment on the issue.

If one works at BYU, and one wants to keep paying the mortgage, one doesn't comment on things that may result in one's termination from BYU.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Huh, that's what I took away from it, what is your take Brade?

I agree with Brade. The message was clear even back on the FAIR board: Members are responsible for learning the true history on their own. So the established method is to read this history on the Tanner's website, at Saints Without Halos and Uncle Dale's board, then to read the explanation of this previously unrevealed history at the FAIR site. At FAIR they will find explanatory insights and tortuous reasonings laid out in easy to digest form, so as to reaffirm faith in the Gospel.
