Doctor Scratch, you described this particular informant thusly:

Doctor Scratch wrote:That said, this "informant"---someone extremely reliable and who is turning up as an "informant" for the first time that I can remember---is something of a stalwart, and s/he is well-positioned to get legitimate information like this.

Then you quoted him or her thusly:

Agent San Diego wrote:Dan Peterson was recently planning a very harsh 100-page hit piece on John Dehlin for the [FARMS Review] but it was opposed by Gerald Bradford and apparently even found its way to the desk of a General Authority, who put a stop to its publication.

I hope idle speculation from the peanut gallery won't compromise your source, but can this possibly mean that one of your informants is in the Church Office Building itself??

he (DCP) was probably told to stop posting on the boards

This is intriguing. I wondered the same thing when he suddenly stopped posting here.

I doubt it. Scratch's informant seems to be everywhere that Dan is. If Dan farts 5 times, scratch's informant tells him of it. Here is my take on it: the LDS academic community that dan travels in is not that huge. It is quiet small actually. If scratch had an informant, dan would spot him or her rather quickly.

And if this informant does exist I think that both the informant and scratch need to get a life and take a long holiday away from dan. Life is too short.

Since he was not exactly received well on this board, I think that he stopped because it wasn't worth his time.

He still seems to avidly read the boards. If this was Twitter I'm sure he'd be "following" Doctor Scratch.

Would he be looking for a wider than normal restroom sitting pose? What about yond Cassius who has a lean and hungry look? Or what about that third cousin to a General Authority who inherited his BYU administrative job?

So many informant suspects.

Not if the informant(s) were of a more senior nature within the Church.
I would speculate that Scratch's expose's about DCP are making certain General Authority's crusades against Mormon apologia that bit easier...

Is that a picture of Dan in the '70s?

I don't know why the character in the picture is imagined to be so much geekier looking than Dan himself is.

Not that I care. I think geeks are cool. Many of my favorite relatives, cool guys, are engineer geeks. I just get the feeling based on this picture that Dan thinks he is much cooler than they are.

I thought the same thing at first. How ridiculous is it to make fun of someone by posting a picture that looks like you more than the person you are making fun of?

To each their own, I guess.

As I recall, DCP was called out on his defense of the Book of Abraham, specifically the Ensign article he wrote where he tries to explain that the 4 gods Joseph identified in FAC 1 were really worshipped in the ancient world. He footnotes a work by Lundquist as proof with no further explanation.

HOWEVER, someone actually looked at the footnote and did some research on Lundquist's work. Stephen Thompson wrote a review of this in Dialogue and basically said that explanation didn't make any sense. For example he uses what should be a translation for a Canal as the name of a God. Lundquist apparently took the 4 names and tried desperately to match them up with a huge list of ancient gods from all languages and countries to see if anything was at all close.

DCP responded and said he would come back with a reply and then he mysteriously vanished. It seemed that he knew he was on shaky ground and decided to run away instead of attempt to answer the critics who called him out on something he wrote. DCP knew when he was outmatched and fled. There simply is no defense for the Book of Abraham and those that try with wild theories and merely cite footnotes as evidence, will eventually be made to answer for their claims.

More on the 4 gods argument: http://www.mormonthink.com/book-of-abra ... veanyofthe

DCP, if you are surfing this board, then please come back and defend your 4 gods statement or you will always be branded as someone that publishes misleading and inaccurate statements in official church magazines in an attempt to keep the members faithful instead of telling them the complete truth.
