why me wrote:Since he was not exactly received well on this board, I think that he stopped because it wasn't worth his time.
As I recall, DCP was called out on his defense of the Book of Abraham, specifically the Ensign article he wrote where he tries to explain that the 4 gods Joseph identified in FAC 1 were really worshipped in the ancient world. He footnotes a work by Lundquist as proof with no further explanation.
HOWEVER, someone actually looked at the footnote and did some research on Lundquist's work. Stephen Thompson wrote a review of this in Dialogue and basically said that explanation didn't make any sense. For example he uses what should be a translation for a Canal as the name of a God. Lundquist apparently took the 4 names and tried desperately to match them up with a huge list of ancient gods from all languages and countries to see if anything was at all close.
DCP responded and said he would come back with a reply and then he mysteriously vanished. It seemed that he knew he was on shaky ground and decided to run away instead of attempt to answer the critics who called him out on something he wrote. DCP knew when he was outmatched and fled. There simply is no defense for the Book of Abraham and those that try with wild theories and merely cite footnotes as evidence, will eventually be made to answer for their claims.
More on the 4 gods argument:
http://www.mormonthink.com/book-of-abra ... veanyoftheDCP, if you are surfing this board, then please come back and defend your 4 gods statement or you will always be branded as someone that publishes misleading and inaccurate statements in official church magazines in an attempt to keep the members faithful instead of telling them the complete truth.
