I think people are being to hard on Donny. He is just doing what most TBM's would do based on what they have been taught about it. I grew up with the idea that Joseph only worked for a guy who was looking for treasure and then talked him out of it.

....
I suppose that the religion is pretty irrelevant. What would qualify one for the epithets would be that one was a 'hilarious moron', and so on. If you are those things, but you also happen to be Mormon, why should you be let off? And guess what? This is a board dedicated to discussing Mormonism. So it is very likely that any 'hilarious morons' (and so on) discussed here will be Mormons. What's the problem?
There are no doubt some people who are nice enough never to call people such things, however much they may deserve it of course. I am that sure RayA is one of those.

The FARMS Review no longer exists, and since one of its purposes was to correct "bad apologetics" like this, I guess that's now left to......critics?

As long as faithful Mormons never attack other faithful Mormons, all is well. The critics will now take care of that.
I think I'm getting the drift.
Most of the replies here are pointing out errors in Donny's statements. If this was the FARMS review, we would avoid discussing the main points he makes. We would begin our critique by talking about how much his music sucks. Then we would talk about how his sister had to go on Weight Watchers to lose weight. We would then critique the cheesy 1970s Donny and Marie variety show. All of these things show that Donny Osmond dos not know know anything about Mormon history, and we can safely ignore everything he says about it.

I disagree. He has asserted that he is knowledgeable about the subjects addressed by the questioner. he also says he has "studied" the issues and that he is "setting the record straight." If all he knew was what he was taught from the LDS Church, then he should have said that he was unfamiliar with the information presented by the anti-Mormons and does not know the facts but knows that the church is true with all his heart because of his warm fuzzies. But he says that the information the questioner mentions is false based on his own investigation and study of the issue. He shouldn't set himself up as some kind of expert if he is not willing to be challenged on the answers he gives.

Yup.
His answers certainly did not begin. "Well, I dunno. I'm just this musician, and I haven't studied much. Sorry, can't help you there."

He is doing the same thing as most other TBM's would do. I thought I knew. Most of us thought we were knowledgeable by the fact we attended church, seminary, institute, or missions. He even provided answers to some of her concerns that he like most TBM's got from being active members of the church. That they are very incorrect is more the fault of the church then the member, but hey, we can call them lazy like many apologists like to.

I think the difference here is that Donny is deliberately utilising his celebrity in specifically setting up part of his website to act as an apologetic defence to the questions his 'fans' ask about his religion. Reviewing his apologetics against fairly widely known facts and evidence would indicate that he is misleading the people who read his website about these subjects. I do not know if that is deliberate or because he is uneducated about the facts.
And let's be honest here, Donny started it!
These problems are not uncommon for all of us. Isn't it interesting that you cannot go onto the web and find any kind of anti-Catholic, anti-Pentecostal, anti-Baptist, or anti-Lutheran material, but there's all kinds of stuff that is "anti-Mormon." What you read from this poor, misguided soul who encourages good people to not believe the truth by his outrageous, exaggerated, or totally false statements is a real tragedy.
When reading Donny's statements it is ironic that he is the one clearly 'misguided', he is the one encouraging 'good people to not believe the truth by his outrageous, exaggerated, {and} totally false statements'.

Donny Osmond wrote: Joseph was hired along with others to work for the man as they attempted to seek a vein of silver, which surveys had said was on the mining property. They never found it.
Is there any historical evidence to support the facts of what Donny is claiming about the treasure seeking incident?
