You guys are seeing this all wrong. I have it from an anonymous "informant" that this was a straightforward application of
D&C 9:9. What, you believe the Lord will give it to them when they take no trouble save to ask? No! They had to produce the idea, hire the architects, plan the structure, craft the arguments to make to the neighbors, and all the rest, and
then ask of God, who giveth unto all men liberally, and upbraideth not.
In this case, so my "informant" whispers to me, after the completed plan was presented to the Lord, he sent a stupor of thought. After a few minutes' nervousness, sheepish church authorities admitted to each other that apparently this wasn't the Lord's will after all, and they have returned to the drawing board.
