Holy shnikes! Isn't it interesting that the church, which is never shy about censoring things from its past it deems embarrassing now does not see anything in these articles that it should be embarrassed about. I mean, someone had to look at this stuff before putting it up on the church's official web site, right? Unreal.
"The Church is authoritarian, tribal, provincial, and founded on a loosely biblical racist frontier sex cult."--Juggler Vain "The LDS church is the Amway of religions. Even with all the soap they sell, they still manage to come away smelling dirty."--Some Schmo
I have a feeling that this "message" is going to be reprinted. It used to be that missions were for sisters who weren't pretty enough to get married by the time they were 21. Now, that they have lowered the age to 19, a mission is going to be where the women of the Church MEET eligible men for marriage.

You would think. Right now I'm too busy laughing. This thread is awesome. However, the article does say the faithful brown friend looked great in his suit, so it's not racist.

What is even harder to believe or understand is that they put it up on their website now. I'm going to have my girls read this junk, just to make them mad
My HT and his wife visited us last night. They are parents of four daughters, two of which are filing papers to go on missions. We talked about the earlier age requirements for the sisters and elders and how filing now, for sisters at least, probably means a stateside mission. I mentioned that I had found some advice for the sister missionaries, which I read to them. They were laughing about it until I showed them on my Kindle how it was posted on LDS.org, then they just shook their heads in disbelief. I offered to print out copies for their daughters to help them prepare for their missions. They laughed and declined saying that they wanted to encourage their daughters to go.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

I really want to see the illustrations that went with those two pieces. So far I haven't been able to turn up any old July 1973 New Era issues on eBay or a couple of other sites.
I'll try to keep looking, though I am mightily distracted these days with more pressing issues.

Well, I don't know. When we consider the problems that teenage girls are having these days with alcohol and drug addiction, maybe the advice on that site was not too far off.
Interesting to read just how to prevent the problem further down in the columbia university text
