The woman insists of paying 187.00 per month in tithing and the bishop has no problem in taking it.

Sometimes I really hate the church

My MIL's bishop would not allow her to pay tithing after I took over her bank account several years before she died. She was allowed to give fast offerings, but even then he was careful with her.

Your MIL's bishop is wrong.

But that's mote than 10%. Why?

Its as simple as this:

Whenever you hear the words; Salvation and Money, mingeled together, you can know for a surety that you are dealing with a man made religion.

No fragmented quotes from ancient hebrew scripture, or fire-insurance mumbojumbo will change that.

So.. how much for your salvation?
About Joseph Smith.. How do you think his persona was influenced by being the storyteller since childhood? Mastering the art of going pale, changing his voice, and mesmerizing his audience.. How do you think he was influenced by keeping secrets and lying for his wife and the church members for decades?

Well, since I don't think there is any other kind, what can I say?

Maybe - if you can find a religion that you feel helps you cope with being human, does no obvious harm, and where the primary motive of the people running it seems unlikely to be financial, why not go with it?

Otherwise watch your step. The slogan "God needs your money so give it to us" in any of its many forms has to be an obvious flashing red light - unless you can see the great majority of the money you give being speedily redistributed in the direction of people who are in obvious need of it. If they say "You're not allowed to know what we do with it, so just trust us", then wailing klaxons are added to the red light.

Is that true in the case of the CoJCoLDS? (What was that figure for church income spent on humanitarian causes? 2% or 3%? Oh, it's a secret in any case, no?)

Bishop Orellana explained that tithing was 10 percent of their increase.

Increase?

Since when...

It hasn't been "increase" for over 100 years. It is 10% of gross earnings, not "increase".

Liars.

Any member in Salt Lake City earning a paycheck - goes into their bishop and states "I did not get a raise this year Bishop. Therefore, I have had no increase, and therefore, no tithing." - Would have their recommend snatched away.

Liars. They church rag speaks out of both sides of their mouth.

I like Harmony's response the best. Mormonism ties all blessings to paying money. Mormons are paying insurance to get into heaven. You can pay for 25 years, but miss a single payment and your policy is cancelled.

You would have to ask Granny, she was adamant about it.

Not really. Any active person reporting that they are full tithe payers will be recorded as full tithe payers, even if they pay less, especially if they own a business.

Never mind. I shall just assume she wants an extra

100%*(1870-1200)/1200 = 56% blessings. I mean, who wouldn't?

(Sorry - I meant "more than 10%, of course.)

Be adamant about allowing her to survive financially without your contributions. Tell her she will be blessed for it. God blesses tithe payers does he not?
