Cameron was my best friend. He is NOT gay. People need to be smarter than this don't need to assume. There is much much more to this terrible tragedy than any of you will ever know.

What information are you comfortable sharing, so that wrong assumptions aren't made?

So Koliv, enlighten us on the truth.
The kid is dead, dead, DEAD. He did it to himself.
Go ahead, make excuses and explain it.
Maybe he realized how glorious the Telestial Kingdom really was and read Joseph Smith about killing ones self to get there and figured 'why wait'?
Was the car paid for or is he stiffing the bank now?

I am sorry for the loss of your friend...I agree that it is a tragedy. Your friend...was sending a message to the church by taking his life in the manner that he did. By taking his life as he did in such a dramatic manner, driving into the Temple Wall, he clearly wanted to send a message...perhaps you could enlighten us with what that message may have been that he wanted to send.

He's a Mormon. Maybe the car was a Kirtland Wildcat. Of course it wasn't paid for.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Dec. 11:
Sweetwater Reporter, Dec. 12:
besides sounding like an asshole by talking about a damaged fence and reassuring everyone that the temple is "Open For Business!" when asked for comment on a tragic incident in which a young man took his own life, i think Eric Hawkins (Contact for Print and Broadcast News Media) was probably not being honest when he told the reporter "it is not known if Alldredge had any ties with the temple." the wreck was on Monday, the LDS funeral on Saturday, and somehow on Friday the LDS spokesperson is still unaware that this person was one of their own? even if that were somehow true, he certainly could've looked it up in about 2 seconds. so why did Eric Hawkins play dumb?
Eric Hawkins, LDS Church spokesman said, it is not known if Alldredge had any ties with the temple. Hawkins said the damages done to the temple is minimal.
“The damage to the Lubbock temple property is limited to a fence and a retaining wall, and will not affect the operation of the temple,” Hawkins said. “Church leaders will work with insurance companies to address the damage and make the necessary repairs.”
Sweetwater Reporter, Dec. 12:
Cameron Tanner Alldredge passed away on Monday, Dec. 8 in Lubbock, Texas.
He was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and was the seventh of nine children. He was the peacemaker in the family, and greatly loved. He was kind and loving, with a beautiful smile and cheerful spirit. Cameron attended junior high in Sweetwater where he played football. His eighth grade team was undefeated and not scored upon. Cameron went on to attend and graduate from Roby High School, playing football and being a friend to all. [...]
A memorial service for Cameron will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on the corner of 10th and Elm, Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m.

As you probably know, I'm not one to leap to the defence of Church PR....however.
We have no idea what the question or questions were that Eric Hawkins was responding too. He could have been asked "Was there any damage to the Temple?" and "Other than his membership, was Tanner tied in other ways to the Temple?" Nor do we know if what got printed was his entire response.
Despite the protestations of the poster claiming to be his friend, the most likely scenario is one where Tanner was struggling to overcome something in his life that conflicted him with his Mormonism in some serious way.

He took a page from the Michael Purdy playbook

And that would be... Living, perhaps?Bazooka wrote:Despite the protestations of the poster claiming to be his friend, the most likely scenario is one where Tanner was struggling to overcome something in his life that conflicted him with his Mormonism in some serious way.
A friendship that requires agreement in all things, is not worthy of the term friendship.

Re: Another Temple suicide?
yeah, fair point on the first example. but your second example is extremely unlikely -- the reporter would not ask "other than his membership..." of his source and then fail to mention said membership -- a very salient fact -- anywhere in the article.Bazooka wrote:As you probably know, I'm not one to leap to the defence of Church PR....however.palerobber wrote:so why did Eric Hawkins play dumb?
