I think we can actually agree that this is most likely the response the Savior has when his ordained servants screw up big time.

The obvious elephant in the room is why Jesus allows it at all in the first place. We humans overall take far better care of our children than God appears to, most especially as the focus broadens out onto the worldwide plain.

Exactly. When I read statements from the lds church that include this justification, I am even more convinced that it's just PR run amuck. Because surely, they are not that stupid. Surely.
