Back in the early 2000’s I had a friend attending the Las Vegas temple, and one of the matrons told her “how nice it is to see a negro attend the temple.” She cried.

DCP from the Newsweek comments:
During my tenure as a bishop in the Church, I happily sent at least two "mixed race" couples to the temple for marriage.
You have to wonder if for the other mixed-race couples he grudgingly allowed to get married in the temple. I was happy to send Ginny and Jim, but you two....I mean I guess you're passing the questionnaire but let's be honest cursed is likely the final outcome of this here union. At least I got 2 weirdo mixed-race unions I can endorse under my belt. I love keeping these numbers handy in case anyone says something negative about the Church.

He's so fun.
Are Bishops supposed to enquire as to a person's race before allowing them a temple marriage recommendation?

That comment from DCP is disingenuous. He may have "sent" these couples to the temple, but he *also* warned them about how "difficult" it would be for them. I remember this very clearly--it was back on the old FAIR message board--and I called him out for the inherent racism in what he was saying and it's what led to me being put on the queue. He really has had a lot of problems with race over the years. Don't get me wrong--I don't think he's "racist" in the sense that he hates Black people, or thinks that whites are inherently superior or anything along those lines. Instead, it's more of the 'ignorant' variety, where he seems tone-deaf and inexperienced--like he lacks the empathy/ability to envision what life might be like for folks who don't look like him.

stem, I was not able to find or access comments for this article. I wondered when she was told these things. It was certainly what she would have been told before the change but she might have been told later by some individuals.

I do not see any reason to question Peterson remarking he sent mixed couples to the temple.I do find it truly bizarre that he would not send other mixed couples and I find it bizarre that he would a couple grudgingly .. Did you read this in further comments from him or is this stuff you made up?

I wish someone in the Newsweek comment section would have asked DCP about his own struggles with racism. Posting the lynching photos with cute little captions, smearing MLK and publicly posting that slavery was a good thing for Blacks because now they get to live in America.

Danny, I’m surprised to see you post on this topic. You had to issue a public apology on Patheos due to you posting wildly inappropriate photos of lynching with extremely inappropriate captions. Strange to see you anywhere near this topic. Have you no shame?

Thank you Steve!

Excellent memory Dr. Scratch.

It's a literal massacre over at the Newsweek comment section. Does DCP realize how tone-deaf he is being on this issue? All DCP is doing is victim blaming. It's not going over very well.

I'm sorry, huckelberry. I was being totally cheeky there. I don't know anything about his dealings with mixed couples. I should be more clear. Peterson didn't say that.

he was amazingly efficient. It is sad he won't be commenting on DCP's stuff anymore.
