Even if what W says is true, that a war of attrition has reduced a great power to low tech weapons, which it isn't, it wouldn't be "ironic". I realize he's not a scholar, and who knew that his anger over that fact -- that he isn't good enough -- would drive him to such hatred.

Does Schryver ever acknowledge that he has been wrong for years now, and offer excuses, or does he pretend that his track record has been good?

If he pretends to have had a good record of accurate prediction, does he do it by recognising what has actually happened and pretending to have predicted it, or does he accurately represent his own posting history and pretend that reality has conformed to it?

“Never believe that MAGAs are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since they believe in words. The MAGAs have the right to play, but they like to play with discourse by giving ridiculous reasons, because they are retarded, and through which they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, and switch to another grievance as if they weren’t just proven incorrect in an assertion.” - Professor Dingleberry Hossenpfeffer

When was the last time that an apologist admitted or acknowledged that they had been wrong about something?
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

In many cases, believing that their remarks are merely open to challenge, and not idiotic, is already almost as stupid as believing the remarks are correct.

I think it's worse than that, this is all about authoritarian optimism and loyalty. On the one hand, there is a ton of bad research and belief in misinformation, I think we can expect him not to do very well even if he were legitimately trying his hardest. However, in the space he operates, it's not good enough to just be a bad researcher and fooled by misinformation, you must actively lie for the cause.

Where is the loyalty if the company you work for keeps paying you more than any other company would? Everyone else would do the same thing. The only way to signal loyalty is to claim great things that not only aren't true, but that those in power know aren't true, at least deep down. You can't just tell Kim Jong how powerful he is, he already knows he can order anyone's execution, you must tell him how handsome he is.
