Without a single new fact to go on and on about.

It's perfectly fine to warn about a real or potential conflict of interest in the authors. But the next step is not to reiterate that for thirty-one pages, but to read the book.

A revolutionary thought, I know, on a board where harmony and Boaz & Lidia and Scartch and poor antishock8, among others, contribute so significantly to the overall intellectual tone.

Yes, pulling teeth can be a slow, arduous, and painful process.

In fact, it's pulling teeth to get a "single new fact" as well - for example, did the book mention BY's statement linking the massacre to the Lord's vengeance?

by the way, reading the book will certainly be interesting, and provide information, but as long as other qualified researchers are not allowed access to the same materials, won't really resolve the underlying question regarding conflict of interest.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Maybe she could do a FARMS review with those a priori skills.

If there had ever been a FARMS review where it could be plausibly argued that the reviewer hadn't read the book being reviewed, your comment might make some sense.

This thread has been fascinating.

LOL. Only if the "dentist" is incompetent, lacks proper training, and/or isn't suitably equipped.

Yeah, it probably would take several years of post-grad education to learn how to get you to answer straightforward questions like Beastie was asking with clarity.

I answered her with clarity.

It's not my fault that she didn't like the answers.

The details of this episode are recorded in David Bigler's Forgotten Kingdom: The Mormon Theocracy in the American West, 1847-1896 (Utah State University Press, 1998, chapter 8, "An awful tale of blood", pp. 159-181).

And now, having committed the unpardonable sin of mentioning another book, I go back to lurk mode on this thread.

I ordered that book from Amazon the same time I ordered M@MM and looking forward to reading it.
God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it.

It should make a good comparison in some ways. But that's for you to find out and me to keep guessing, because I don't plan on buying M@MM. At least not for a while.

I figure Biglers book will arrive 7-10 days before M@MM ..
FARMS trashed the book so I took that as a positive indicator.

One thing you will be able to determine is what we've tried to discuss here, the question of "historians' selectivity", which even Bushman acknowledges can be quite random.
