I'm not sure Daniel and his friends would like to be known as Fringe.

If I'm confident that my position is incorrect, I don't care about being on the fringe.

If I think my position is mistaken, it matters little to me that I'm in the mainstream.

(And yes, I recognize your reference. I think, though, that you may imagine that "the Fringe" looms larger than it really does.)

In fact, the Fringe is quite small. We hang by a thread, as it were. Yet we're still attached, and quite capable of catching the occasional burr.
