You can't get someone removed from your dissertation committee without cause, and to say you did is to say that Ritner had done something wrong. The story is a lie, anyway.

Yes is damn well is. But for some reason we keep on and on hearing this story repeated, often in carefully modalized forms, such as one might craft if one knew the story was false, but wanted to keep it in circulation in the hope that others might believe it was true.

Ritner has stated clearly that he resigned from Gee's committee - and he made it pretty clear why he wanted to be in no way associated with his former student. Do I remember rightly that Daniel Peterson found himself faced with the possibility of a lawsuit for asserting otherwise?

Ritner said he would consider a libel suit if Peterson kept repeating the lie.

However, this person is not impressed that people are not really interested in doing his homework for him.

Ludd, if this person is so concerned with this board (and this thread in particular), and it is a matter that could affect hiring decisions at BYU, why doesn't this person join the board and ask us himself (even using a pseudonym), instead of sending you?

Some General Authority or official at BYU or influencing BYU knows enough about this board to know there are all these allegations and make a determination of how many he thinks there are, and which ones are credible or relevant. But he doesn't know enough to research it for himself. So he sends you, and doesn't tell you why he's chosen you, even though you say you don't know a whole lot about the board either. Except that you do know enough to make a determination of how many examples of "antics" you think there are, and which ones are credible or relevant. But you don't know enough to research it for yourself on behalf of the person who for some reason is unable to research it for himself. So you give a homework assignment to the members of the board in general. And we are supposed to be concerned that the person whose agent you are is not impressed with our collective unwillingness to do homework for you that you will forward to him that will have some indeterminate impact on hiring decisions at a major university.

That's your story, right?

Exactly. Which is why the OP, and each subsequent post by them, smells to high heaven.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't care enough about Schryver to spend any time digging through old files and stuff. Is he a misogynist? Most people agree that MsJacks thread showed that but some people don't. Is he a pompous empty blowhard? Without question. Has he acted consistently like a jerk online? Yes.

That's all I care to know about him and I already know it.

All that is needed is to put "circle jerk" in the search engine. If that's not offensive enough, nothing will be.

No. You have misunderstood. It's not that any of those three these things have been shown to be untrue or forgeries. But Schryver has successfully muddied the waters about those three things. That's the whole point of this thread: to get material OTHER than those three obviously offensive things so that they can avoid the "muddy water" all together. Why is that so hard to understand?

And this person IS taking the time to look through this thread, but not enough time to search the board, regarding information that for some implausible reason could reverse the decision to change editors at the Mormon Studies Review.

I don't know that there is any information that could change the MI decision. I shouldn't have mentioned that possibility at all, because it was based on my interpretation of someone else's interpretation of why this information was being requested. But you underestimate how hard it is to "search the board" and find anything. For example, I put in the search word "bitch" for both "William Schryver" and "Will Schryver". But there is nothing new there. I think there were three times that Schryver actually called someone a "bitch". I did other searches, but I wasn't able to find anything. I think it's mostly because I don't know what I'm looking for exactly. Everyone says he is a sexist and a misogynist and vulgar, etc. But there isn't a search option for those things, and I don't know how I would go about finding them unless people who were here at the time remember them.

However, this person is not impressed that people are not really interested in doing his homework for him.

I guess not.

Ludd, if this person is so concerned with this board (and this thread in particular), and it is a matter that could affect hiring decisions at BYU, why doesn't this person join the board and ask us himself (even using a pseudonym), instead of sending you?

Would the responses be different if he were to do that? Really? OK, then. Pretend that I am really him and that "Ludd" is his screen name.
