Re: It's Official - Stand and Shout the Gays are Out (link)
It is very upsetting to see the blanket of bigotry being cast over an entire group of people who really only share one thing in common...they don't fit the heteronormative mold.
But, not surprising, really.
I don't recall ever making the choice to like boys. I do remember liking them from a very early age. I believe my first little crush was around 1st grade. There are little girls who have their first crush on a girl and little boys who have their first crush on a boy.
We don't choose who we are attracted to. We just are. It is what it is, despite Droopy not liking that answer.
We do choose how we act and how we treat people. Do we choose to act in love or do we choose to act in hate? Do we taunt those who are different than us until they can no longer stand it and kill themselves? Or do we use our words and actions to lift and support those who may be different, to help them find love and beauty in a world too often devoid of it?
Asking everyone who doesn't fit the heteronormative mold to live a life of celibacy is nothing short of cruel torture. Pointless. Barbaric. Unhealthy. Unfeeling. Vile.
The church asks more of its 'SSA' members than it does of its heterosexual members as we've seen discussed in previous threads.
People are stuck thinking there is only Boy/Male and Girl/Female. That isn't even close to being the case. Even if it were, human sexuality isn't stuck in one possibility. People need to get their minds unstuck or STFU.
And...
The Proclamation on the Family is such a stupid statement. It is so obviously in error, even to the lay person, that it should be an embarrassment.

by the way - can you please tell me what the "fashionably PC (depending upon the decade and cause pro tempore of the moment)" were for previous decades? Civil rights? Womens suffrage? I would love to know what you think the "fashionably PC" issues were during the last several decades...I would imagine you relate to the women in the background:

I can't even hardly stand to read these gay bashing posts because they are born of hate and have the same kind of thinking that has caused so many religious wars over the generations of time.
Some of you have the same kind of thinking that persecuted the early Christians -- but you would just as well see gays hauled off and beaten or denied our rights and ways.
Droopy, you're like a Roman soldier with nails and hammer in hand. Repent and change your ways. I can't stand to read your hatred against that which is pure and wonderful, pure and natural homosexual love. But Droopy, I have a testimony of it and you can bloody well kill me, I won't deny it. I know whereby which I speak and feel. Go ahead, crucify me -- or let Jehovah God (murderer) come down and do it.

Your seventh grade reading level isn't my concern.

Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?
3 - Is "leftist" supposed to be some kind of insult and does speaking out against bigotry and discrimination make me a "leftist"? (talk about shallow...)
Do you like movies about gladiators?

Have you ever wanted to be a crash test dummie?

Fortunately, unlike your intellectual progenitors, the progressive Left of the 1930s, I don't believe in eugenics, but in your case, this is one area that I might, just for a moment, be willing to come over to the Left and make common cause.

Fix't.
And I feel sorry for all of you who stupidly persist at this seventh-grade reading level and think that the purpose of written language is to convey some kind of intelligible meaning.
But the question remains: is there an upper limit to how many dependent clauses Ron Lafferty can put into a single sentence?

I found a great quote today:
"Easy reading is damn hard writing." — Nathaniel Hawthorne
I work hard to make sure my writing is easy to read, and I do not understand those who try to make their writing more difficult and opaque.
