Lem, you may be missing another possibility.

Sledge may truly not understand that:

• an IP address, while normally unable to uniquely identify an individual by itself, may be used as a further datapoint, along with other pieces of data, to identify someone, or to confirm an identity

[also] IP logging results in the creation of what may be called an IP log. If the 'formal' name for the product is IP access list log, then there may (formally) be no such thing as an IP log

I still think Sledge would be a good mod, I highly, highly doubt he's a security risk (did anyone ever post at MDDB? or any apologist site?), but I also believe that the board in general needs to feel comfortable with the mods and so it goes. On that basis it's not a good idea for now.

I don't think a person needs to pass a CCIE exam to be a mod.

I'm sure the board has a way to lock down the IP field as Res asked, I might look into that later, but that's obviously not the real concern here.
