Are you sure? Or was it because evangelicals wanted to vote for an evangelical?
In utah, did 90% of the republicans vote for romney because they didn't want to vote for an evangelical? or was it because they wanted to vote for a Mormon?
Or was it something else? Or a combination?

Pretty damn sure. They couldn't have thought that the man would win. That one is a no-brainer. So, essentially I am giving them credit for having some intelligence when I say this. I don't think I am wrong on that.

In my opinion, Romney lost it during the youtube debate when he botched the Bible question. Until then, Romney had good support from evangelicals but it was soft because they were waiting for a sign that Mormons are okay.
Romney was asked "Do you believe every word in this book?" Instead of the resounding "Yes!" that all LDS should give, he hemmed and hawed (equivocated) obviously laboring under the "as far as it is translated correctly" clause. That point marks the rise of Huckabee.
For heaven's sake fellow LDS, do you not read your scriptures? What do our scriptures say about Bible corruption? 1 Nephi 13 says it's because things have been removed. There is nothing said about problems with the existing text. Every Mormon should know that they can confidently use the Bible as is, even without the JST, to explain and defend our doctrine without fear of translational issues.
Obviously there are some nit picky parts in the Bible (pi is exactly three, Melchizedek has no father or mother, etc), but most other Christians understand this and it's implied in the question that one does not have to account for these very minor issues.
Remember this next time someone asks you this question. Their conversion to the gospel could depend on it. Your political candidacy as well....
If anybody's angling for a VP slot, I'd say it's Romney. He had the 2nd most delegates after McCain, and him backing out of the race now takes a lot of heat off McCain for the rest of the nomination process. I don't think Huckabee stands a chance. If anything he seems like a niche candidate, the favorite of some Southern state evangelicals. But those races are over, and the ones that remain McCain will likely win most of.
I think Romney's doing McCain a big favor, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if McCain didn't offer Romney the VP slot in his ticket. And it wouldn't surprise me if Romney took it.
If Romney wants to be President someday, running as Veep with McCain, and if they win, serving as Veep for 4 years (it's hard to imagine McCain going for 8 at his age, but it could happen), would set Romney up very well indeed for another future run.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

What I find sad is that there should be a debate that any self-respecting candidate would participate in that would have a "Bible question." Did I say "self-respecting candidate"? What am I thinking?

You're giving them credit for having some intelligence, but basically calling them all bigots?
I'm not sure how you can pinpoint huckabees support to just being anti-mormon. I don't buy it. I see it as pro-EV, just like we saw in Utah (but pro-LDS).

Nope. He would have endorsed McCain had that been the case. His not doing so is a pretty clear signal that he is either not expecting, or does not want, the VP slot.

Europeans? I never really understood Europe bashing. I rather like the place myself. While I think that Europeans are somewhat arrogant, I think they pale in comparison to American arrogance.
What do you think abman? Did you listen, or read his remarks?
I haven't yet. That's why I asked. Is there a link?
edit - oh yeah, and part of it was him saying pornography is the reason we have so many single parent families. idiot.
I don't see the connection unless it's women divorcing husbands over porn-viewing. I think that'd be a bit extreme. Otherwise the reason we have so many single parent families is either because people don't use birth control, or people (one or both in the marriage) are so selfish that they split up (maybe over abuse, but maybe over money, religion, or other things).

I think that Mitt Romney would've have been a lot better President than George W. Bush. George W. Bush is one of the worst Presidents this Country has ever had.
