There are plenty of other reasons why people should post anonymously on the Internet. Safety is a number one concern. The reason I post anonymously is because when I started posting online, I was extremely naïve, and always posted my real name. I felt that I had nothing to hide, so why not?
I ended up being the victim of a crazy Internet stalker who hacked into my work email, and threatened me enough in real life, that we ended up getting the police involved.
Since then, my husband has insisted that if I participate on a message board, I do it anonymously.
I do have close associations here who know who I am in real life, and I'm certainly not ashamed of anything I've said here.
Those who know me would vouch that I'm not much different online than I am offline.
