Re: Big Love Season 3 thread
*Spoilers*
Episode 3.2
Weber gaming finally appears to be set [despite an offensive rant by Margene...] so hopefully that is all good. That was the main plot point this episode. On to the points:
1) The Hendricksons are group dating with Anna, which appears to be very lame. You know how people say "three's a crowd"? Well apparently five is like that, except even more awkward because the whole crowd is married to each other. To top that one of those people is Madam Passive Aggressive Nicolette Grant. Bleh. I can't stand this plot line. Anna is going to be living upstairs with Margene by midseason. Take it and bank it. Of course that's not the most interesting thing...
2) Nudity! Alright not really, side boobage. But it's the daughter Sarah. Yeah she went and did the freak nasty with her exmo guy. Later on in the plot she dumps him because she doesn't love him. And in a bit of irony straight out of the day time soaps *cue the organ music* she got knocked up. Good aim exmo guy. Sarah...might want to reconnect with your baby daddy. I guess your career plans to escape to the Arizona state nursing program have been derailed. Epic fail...at least someone has a bun in the oven because...
3) The Hendricksons have perceptively realized that Nicki hasn't gotten pregnant in four years despite the constant attentions of Bull, I mean Bill. When I think about the way they've been talking on the show about increasing the family size I often forget that Bill is a human, rather than a stud bull who does nothing except hump all day. Of course we the audience know that Nicki's been on the pill for the past few years, but she of course passed the buck and tried to blame Bill. Don't blame the stud! Bill just knocked up Margene there Nick, the logic of Barb deduces, and thus they drag Nicki off to the fertility clinic. The doctor perceptively learns, by the power of science and/or Greyskull, that Nicki is on Birth Control, and gives her the sound advice that she doesn't have to have kids. Nicki gives a great little speech about duty and obedience and increasing family, and then turns around and gets more BC. Hypocrisy...thy name is Nicolette.
4) Margene has more things to worry about now. She's apparently two steps away from being named CEO of Weber gaming thanks to selling a few video machines and her perceptive ability to gloss over bigoted Mormon doctrine with a few nice words, so she was able in a roundabout way to set Bill up for the winning field goal in the Weber gaming storyline. Thank God! Free at last, they signed the deal. Don wasn't much help because...
5) Two of his wives left him. Color me not shocked. Actually I don't care. They were the two wives that we thought might be lesbianing each other back in Season 1, so if they set up house in Boston I wouldn't be surprised. Don wasn't much help this episode. I don't care...
6) But I do care about the compound action, which was rather quiet but a few things going on. Albie is trying to get his father put away for life, and is trying to protect witnesses. One of the witnesses is Rhonda, she who played everyone like a fiddle last season, and the other is the 2nd wife of Joey, who is probably going to be poisoned Wanda. It wouldn't surprise me a bit. Not a damn bit. She is clearly unhinged.
7) Roman has blackmailed Bill into finding Rhonda [who by the way is dating Bill's half brother who is crashing at this house for kids who have been run off the compound. No supervision and no maturity apparently. What a weird and useless hodgepodge of insanity that scene was...] so that Roman can silence her from testifying against him. Roman, he's just a total bad ass. One moment he can be giving a blessing [to Nicki] to give Bill more children, and then he can turn around and blackmail those children's father. Hardcore.
8) But most importantly, Lois has Frank hogtied. Oh it's sweetness itself. Frank made a visit to Lois's shack and threatened her, when one of Frank's wives [the one that had a son kicked out in the previous episode...the kid is staying at the aforementioned house in #7] came in and smacked him with a shovel. Lois took the opportunity to take him in the back room and tie him down. I'm hoping for a Reservoir Dogs-type scene, complete with "Stuck in the Middle With You" playing. That'd be great.
9) What else...No mention of Teeny after her porn thing...I guess her punishment is that she will barely be mentioned the rest of the season. The same thing appears to be happening with the Benny and Tina Marjorino [Sarah's friend] characters, too much stuff already going on to get them into the show. That tends to happen with ensemble shows...remember when ER started with like 6 people and was great? And then it had 15 people and was suddenly lame? Yeah that same thing could happen here if they don't focus on the main people. Hopefully they'll stick with Bill and his family tensions and not branch out too much with the young compound house issue.
10) Barb doesn't have cancer. I guess they'll save that till Season 4. Sarah getting knocked up, along with Anna and the constant compound tension should be plenty of stuff this season.
11) Also of note is that this season has seen some excellent acting. The first season was really awkward, but you can tell the cast has grown used to each other and are doing quality work. Nicki particularly is showing depth as she struggles with her natural instincts vs the idea that she should be submissive/obedient/mother.
Did I miss anything? If so...tough. I'm tired and have to go to class.

Re: Big Love Season 3 thread
Well y'all know how much I love Big Love. I don't have much time right now (at skool) but I wanted to chime in with my favorite part of last night's episode: the closing music.
I was floored to hear Elton John's "Burn Down the Mission."
I would have thought I was probably the only person in the world to connect this song with Mormonism. Yeah, its not about "the" mission, but in my mind it was---I used to hum it in my head during seminary. Before I got kicked out.
1970. Tumbleweed Connection on constant rotation on my record player... Dreaming of escaping Utah... Suspected polygs in our neighborhood...

Blixa! You're here. The thread is complete! [You got kicked outta seminary? Badass!]
Yeah that song was excellent. They do excellent music on the show. [Although I dislike some of the country/prairie stuff...needs more Neil Peart.]

There's always at least one small detail that'll hit my funny bone just right. For last night's epi, it was when Lois was dragging Frank out of the house. His head thunks loudly on the step, and you hear Lois bark out a maniacal giggle.
I also like how Pudgy Crew-cut's wives left him for each other. That was pretty good.
Whoa on Sarah being pregnant. That'll mess with the college plans.

That thud was great. I think they could do a whole hour of nothing but Lois threatening Frank and Frank being defiant and I'd be happy. Spinoff please!

I saw that coming a mile away. I knew it.

Re: Big Love Season 3 thread
Thanks, again.
I also grew up with Tumbleweed Connection consistently playing on the turntable. That was nice to hear again.
About Barb: Let's hope she celebrates her new life by going out and doing some shopping and getting a makeover. I vote for a new hairdo as first on the list.
A funny moment: After they have all been out on their date, and the wives are discussing how it went, and Margene says it didn't go well:
Nikki says something like, "Oh, what does she (Anna) have to complain about? She got to sit in the front seat, and she got got all the free refills..." (the date was at a A & W-like hamburger restaurant. They were all eating in the car.)
Margene responds with something like: "You have to remember that Anna comes from Europe and Europeans are a little more sophisticated..." or something like that.
I wonder what will Bill do with Anna now that he is the big stud muffin again? Will he wait until marriage?

Re: Big Love Season 3 thread
I've enjoyed some of the small touches this season, like clueless Margie giving Ana a Book of Mormon.
However, I do have a quibble with the show. It seems misleading to present Bill as hunting for new wives among "gentiles". I always thought it was odd that they portrayed Margie as only being baptized years after she'd "married" Bill, and now Ana is totally uninterested, so far, in the religious aspect of polygamy. Realistically, that's the only reason women consider it, because of strong religious convictions.
Plus, I know that Nikki has a lot of unpleasant personality traits, but she always struck me as the only wife with any balls. Kudos for taking BC pills, Nikki. You go, girl.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

I suspect for 100 women entering into polygamy there are a 100 reasons and not all religious.. Men on the other hand - there is only one reason.. :)
I did not get the last part about Rhonda and the room plastered with stuff.. May have to watch it again.
God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it.

I just saw Amanda last week in Mamma Mia (finally watched it). She was pretty cute in that one. I believe they said in a DVD extra that she was opera trained for a few years. She certainly sings better than Remington Steele a.k.a. 007.
