I think the Ranch started out with the best of intentions under the kind hand of Lowell Bennion, but as the poet said, "the best layed plans of mice and men aft gang a glee". I assume Buttars involvement with the Ranch was just Murphy's Law adding some icing to that cake.

Maybe Buttars ought to be sent to that ranch. Break him down. Straighten him out. Make him into a man. That sounds fair.
