On a side note, Graham was a more angry, dickish person when he was a faithful LDS. He's still has that in him, but not to the same degree. So, instead of being "driven mad by apostasy" it seems like the opposite happened. I'm guessing he has just matured as he got older, but then again I don't belong to a faith that tries to Trump up examples of reformed people as evidence of its truth.

Kevin is not red not "unsane," and even if he were, what would it have to do with the comments he makes regarding this trailer?

I think the LDS Church is in a bit of a vicious circle on this.

The only films produced by the Church are going to portray Joseph in this manner, not really a man, but more like a God. And hence flat, uninteresting and unbelievable.

I cannot imagine the Correlation Committee approving a film about Joseph Smith produced for mass consumption to include his firing the smuggled revolver into the Carthage crowd, regardless of how reasonable such actions may have been under the circumstances.

I am guessing they would also not allow Joseph to be portrayed drinking some wine earlier that hot Illinois afternoon.

And if Joseph does not record either of the First Vision personages as saying, "I am Jesus Christ," well, we all "know" that is who one of them was, and so why not do a little creative interpolation?

The problem is this is the only Joseph Smith the Church will allow to be portrayed, but the real Joseph Smith and the real events (even as recorded by Joseph Smith!) are different.

When Mormons figure out the discrepancy, they are left with the feeling of having been misled and deceived by the LDS Church.

Such a feeling is wholly warranted, in my opinion, and could be rectified by the simple expedient of the Church not insisting on presenting Joseph Smith as a demi-god.

I disagree. As time goes on, he spends ever more time on this board in ever more and varied witch hunts against his target of the moment with ever more visceral hatred and cathartic posturing.

He's a textbook, classic anti-Mormon, and his kind of psychology has a long history within the Church.

Check out the poor innocent, falsely accused prophet being murdered for absolutely no apparent reason other than the fact that he, like Jesus, was too perfect for this miserable world.

I couldn't stop laughing throughout this movie. Joseph Smith holding back the door with his bare hands as the mob shot bullets from every direction. Black folks walking "900 miles" to see Joseph (wtf?) and then have the honor of him washing their blistering feet (right!!). Two bounty hunters taking Joseph to Missouri, only to be stopped by Mormon militia and then invited by Joseph to be their "guest of honor" at dinner that same night. Every clip had Joseph giving pearls of wisdom to everyone, including lazy husbands who didn't want to do any chores. Joseph Smith in this movie was better than Jesus ever was in the Bible.

The most amazing thing about this is that Mormons are so naïve and have already started praising this as an accurate portrayal of the historical Joseph. They'll hear the hymns constantly playing in the background, and watch the professional actors approach Joseph with sincere eyes as if he were Jesus on the Mount.

Funny how they decided to skip over the Nauvoo Expositor, any mention of polygamy, or the gun Joseph Smith fired back at his attackers, etc...

Joseph Smith was like Superman. It makes you wonder why the bullets didn't bounce off his chest.

Now that I get to see the whole movie I want to dig my eyes out with rusty spoons, fill the cavities with oily rags, and set them on fire. Youtube was trying to protect me.
