You do now do you? How so? Do you just assume that all LDS leaders and hard nose about such things like you are? Have you been a bishop or SP where you have had to sit in judgement? If not then I submit you really don't know much about this issue.
That's what living a NOMist life is all about anyway.
Is it really? Well you know it might be. But if so it is because the culture of the LDS Church creates it. There just is not a forum or place for members who have valid issues with certian things to discuss it openly and honestly. There is too much to lose at times. And frankly, the Church is afraid of openness and certainly does not foster it at all. Questioning members are ostracized if they are open, and scorned and they become second class citizens.
I'm surprised that John's stake president is letting things go. I still think it is only a matter of time until John does have a stake president that brings down the hammer (assuming John stays on his current trajectory).
I agree.
No surprise there.
It all depends on what the SP knows and what John is willing to tell.
Do you know anything about John Dehlin and Mormon Stories? Every thing he does and says is open and in the public. If John lied to his SP he SP could certainly find out John's views and what he is doing since he has a website and does podcasts about it.
Based on what others have said about him, I'm fairly certain he would not have got away without disciplinary action of some sort unless he communicated sincerely a desire to believe and willingness to work towards it without infecting others with apsotate beliefs.
So you know about John only through others apparently. And you have judged him already. But you are prime example of why a NOMish member should keep his mouth shut.
Keep it up BC. Then the Church you love and so narrow mindlessly defend will shrink even more. NOMers probably make up members sitting in the pews than you know. The Church has 30% activity rate worldwide. That really is pretty pathetic when you think about it. And keep in mind many of those NOMers who choose to stay, like me, are tither payers as well as calling holder members. Some in significant callings.
Purge us out if you will but the Church will suffer as a result.
