This is the problem, Stem. Joseph went to the MDB IP host, unbeknownst to Shades. A formal complaint was filed regarding a photo that was posted here which was under copyright. Now, keep in mind, the photo that was posted was not posted maliciously. As a matter of fact, the poster of the photo was actually in the process of having a conversation with the photographer when Joseph inadvertently butted in.

At that point, no formal charges came against MDB because the photo was simply removed, and we were given a warning by our IP host.

Later, the former porn writer from MAD filed a formal complaint regarding his photo being posted without permission. Since Joseph had already alerted our host to a prior complaint, and there was already a warning on file, our host took, probably further action than it would have initially taken, if Joseph had not interfered in the first place, and shut the site down without warning.

Now, we have "two strikes", basically, that our Internet host is aware of.

If Joseph does go to our host and files some other complaint, even if his complaint is bogus, it could still severely impact the site's ability to remain online. We would, more than likely, have to look for a new Internet host. We may be charged a higher hosting fee by another company because of the problems already on file.

So, yes, Stem, there are some very real ramifications to Joseph's blustering. It's no joke. That is why Shades is taking the action he is taking.

Wow with such flimsy grounds needed to destroy a site like this, its a wonder its still around then. With that, i don't think there is going to be much of anything that can stop the problem you've predicted, if your rehearsal is a fair appraisal of it all. And no, he has no case. Most online forums allow unlimited image posting (sans pornographic pics). It's fair use.

if he has no case then I don't get what all the hubbub is about, unless Liz's explanation of how to ruin a site like this is true. If her's is an accurate rendition then I don't think there will be any way to stop ol' Joseph or anyone to log a complaint and giving this place three strikes.

Well, yes and no. The problem is that, like it or not, because the other case Joseph was involved with was legitimate, in that there actually was a copyright infringement made, Joseph does hold some credibility with our host.

I honestly don't think Joseph's goal here is to get the site shut down. If it was, he would have attempted this process a long time ago. I think he likes posting here, enjoyed a bit of a sense of power based on the type of control that he has been able to exhibit, and has now painted himself into a bit of a corner.

I hear your point, Buffalo, I just think your validating the LDS Church's idea of ex'ing those who wish to vocally oppose the official positions. Let's see, you say he's trying to shut it down. All he's done is tried to explain his opinion of what is right and what is wrong concerning copyrighted material. When challenged, as I recall, about him threatening the site, he clarified, it seems, saying he's just stating the facts as he knows them. Sounds pretty familiar no?

Nope. Think harder stem. He's reported this site to the host.

An equivalent in the church might be a member trying to dis-incorporate the church.

There are plenty of "anti-MDB" posters here. I'm not advocating that they be banned.
