Actually, this is the kind of thing that I could see myself doing, even now. And I'm not a kid. And I've never gone to BYU.

On the other hand, thousands of kids are rejected from BYU every year... these few got in, because they are smarter than the rest, and the church needs their leadership, which is why the tithes are used to support them. So when they do something manifestly STUPID, and show the world how those same tithes were wasted on them... well, it pisses me off.

So no... I'm not sorry I'm snarky. They should have learned their lesson about fire long before this.

To make a direct connection between the activities of these students and "your tithing money at work" is silly. People donating a percentage of their income to a church doesn't cause other people to go out and drop Molotov cocktails down a mine shaft.

These are examples of kids doing dumb things. What if the story had been about students from a Baptist school like Baylor University? Would they even merit comment?

You seem to have high expectations of anyone that has "LDS" pasted after their name.

Would you hold to the comments you've made on this thread if the victims in this story were female? Not that it ought to matter either way, but you do seem to have a fetish towards criticism of the male gender within the LDS church.

We were told on another thread that the reason the church still pours tithes into BYU is because the students there are the cream of the crop, and will be the standard bearers for generations to come. So really, MG... yes. I expect more from BYU students than standard stupid behavior of the age group. And since I haven't seen a press release about any other college students dropping gas bombs down abandoned mine shafts lately, I'm pretty confident that the Lord's university, repository of the tithes of the poor, who will likely
NEVER get to attend, looks pretty stupid also.
