I couldn't help but think of a black slave falling all over himself thanking his massah for a piece of corn pone.

That you thought that, because of her opinion on that matter, is probably just as troubling. Ah well...

Why is that, Stem?

Oh I don't know, thinking of LDS women as in the same position as slaves of old seems a bit skewed, at the very least. Let's not disrespect the evils of slavery by equating it to something much different and much more benign.

So your criticism is not about kind, but degree?

We have some major failures in understanding each other today. Did you read my words? Of course its about kind. Slavery does not in any way relate to women not having the priesthood. That's just silly and disrespects the pains and evils of slavery, if you ask me. There's no point in equating any old thing out there to slavery, unless you're going for some chlling effect, which Consig was doing, but irresponsibly so.

Really? You don't think racism and sexism are in any way related? Obviously slavery is more extreme than denying blacks (or women) the priesthood, but bigotry is at the root of it all, no?

See? Difference in degree, not kind.

Buffalo, racism is one thing, but slavery is something else. Slavery is a different kind than racism even.

Why is that? Wasn't slavery limited to Africans and their decedents in this country? Wasn't it all based on racism?
