"Well, so what?" she asked. "You got the same kind of teaching about the Word of Wisdom and the other commandments."
No, we didn't. That was my point.
Plus not drinking and smoking were easy commandments to follow if you never tried it. Asking a guy not to masturbate is like asking him not to take a crap.
This was the only "sin" that I had problems with. Sure I wasn't nice sometimes and I lied sometimes but that was something I could work on. It was impossible for me not to masturbate. After 6 months I would just go insane!

The only thing that bothers me about this kind of stuff from bcspace and Mattie and others is that it is a deliberate attempt to devalue and delegitimize our experience. It's not enough to say that they haven't experienced this, but they insist we haven't, either. In that way, we can be dismissed as liars or worse.
At one point, I may have been convinced that we were the exception to the rule, but I doubt it.
Yeah my cousin is an active clerk in his ward and he tells me he gets asked. All my Mormon friends told me if I got asked. When I went inactive lots of people asked me if I suffered from a certain problem. We all knew what that meant.
I never thought I would invent an antimormon lie! That's funny if they think that.

I've been trying to find some value to the discussions on this forum, but so far it seems to me nothing more than a place where former LDS members gripe about what they don't like about Mormonism. I've finally been able to identify what appear to be two or three believing LDS, but it looks like this place is mainly just for former LDS with an axe to grind. And it looks like there is a universal obsession with masturbation.
Then f*****g leave.
What a strange over-reaction.
What a strange obsession.
The person who told me about it said I would learn a lot of interesting things on this message board. I think I'm finally beginning to understand what he meant. It's the people here who are so interesting.

I'm mad because you are calling me a liar. Do you not get mad when people call you a liar when you are not lying?

What "kind of stuff" are you talking about? All I said is that I was never asked about masturbation. I didn't question if anyone else was. I have no reason to doubt what others here are saying about it. I haven't called anyone a liar. I don't think anyone is a liar. What a strange reaction to what I did say!
The only think I don't get is what seems to be an obsession with this particular topic by people on this forum. I just don't understand that. That's all. It seems like a strange thing to focus one's anger about Mormonism on. I never would have expected that. That's why I find it curious.

It's the LDS Church that is obsessed with masturbation and "chastity" and "sexual purity," etc. The 2010 Church Handbook of Instructions tells Bishops and Stake Presidents that their parishioners' private sexual habits are appropriate, even required, topics for interviews. The CHI tells them to make clear to youth in interviews that they are to refrain "from any kind of sexual activity." It does not tell Bishops simply to ask young people if they keep the law of chastity; it says refrain "from any kind of sexual activity." For bcspace, the CHI is an official church publication printed by the church and approved at the highest levels of church governance. And that's where Bishops and SPs get the idea that it's not only to inquire into "any kind of sexual activity" of their interviewees, but mandated by the prophets and apostles who, presumably, are getting their marching orders from Jeebus himself.
