Call out a GA? Does that mean you would call for their excommunication? Would you tell them to turn in their temple recommends until they repent? According to you, James E Faust was not worthy to carry a TR. Would you have confronted him and demanded he repent?

there was once a time when one could be a good LDS and a Democrat. Faust was on the tail end of that time so I think he can be excused. However, if he had lived along with Jensen, I'll be willing to bet you he would not have continued to support the Democratic party. LDS doctrine is too conservative for them now.

Do any of you think Faust or Jensen supported or would have supported state sanctioned gay marriage, or even socialism considering what LDS doctrine is?

Who said gay marriage had anything to do with intelligence and compassion? There is nothing preventing gays from marrying in any state by the way.

Sir, you make my point for me better than I could. Here's hoping the church is left only with people like you very soon.

And you make my point by being unable to answer the question.

I'm sure neither of them supported gay marriage, but there are a lot of democrats who do not support gay marriage just as there are a lot of republicans that do support it. It is one issue.

Currently the Religious Right/Far Right is dictating the positions of the GOP. Many of those positions (anti-choice, anti-women, homophobic, etc) are right in line with Mormon positions so it's a natural place for the Mormon church to position itself, especially if it will yield political power to the Church organization.

I'm wondering what positions you think are anti-choice, anti-women, or homophobic since there are none extant in conservatism or the LDS Church? Anti-abortion laws recognize the choice two people made to have sex and not put the responsibility and punishment for the result solely on the unborn. Nothing prevents gays from marrying in any state and there is no compelling reason for any state to recognize and benefit such marriages. So what else is there?

Because all the candidates are awful and/or they have tons of negative history. Newt and Mitt (and now Ron Paul) are being raked over the coals for things they've said in their past. Bachmann/Santorum/Perry are idiots who sound like inbred yokels. All of these GOP debates have proven one thing, this crop of candidates is terrible.

Gore, Biden Pelosi, Soros etc. LOL! And even Obama sounds like a Saul Alinsky clone. At least the Republicans take a more correct and reasoned stance on the issues.

Sure. But there are many issues and the Republican Party itself has supported the Federal Marriage Amendment. Party-wise, it is the Democrats who are in opposition to the Church, not Republicans.

So what are we going to do about Marlin K. Jensen? Why do you think he has not been excommunicated, or at the very least, relieved of his GA duties? His is obviously unrepentant in his democrat beliefs.

What has he said recently (since 1998) and is he in my jurisdiction for TR? Who does he vote for now? As for why he and others have not been ex'd, it is as I said earlier in this thread; the Church is allowing the wheat to grow up with the tares.

by the way, MKJ did say this in an interview about 2006 If I recall correctly:

What is the official position of the church on homosexuality?

Our position on that is that there is a single standard actually of morality for all members of the church, and that essentially is that we abstain from all sexual relationships and sexual relations prior to marriage. Once we do marry, we are loyal, completely loyal, to our marital partner, and that the only marriage sanctioned by God is of a man to a woman. As Paul said, "Neither is a man without the woman nor the woman without the man in the Lord." So there is really no allowance within our doctrine for a homosexual relationship of woman to woman or man to man.

Perhaps the question you should be asking is if MKJ is a good Democrat as this is in opposition to their platform......lol

I have a question on the issue of abortion.

Back when George, Jr. was in the White House, didn't we have a majority Republican Congress and House of Reps.?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Repubs have YEARS to try to change the abortion laws and nothing changed?
If you ask me, the issue is merely a talking point and whenever the R's bring up that they would make things different, I say, "Yeah right, sure you would. Just like back when you had control."

Again, if there were changes and I missed them, I'll gladly acknowledge it. Thanks.

That is only true if the conservative Mormons admit their politics are a stronger motivator than their religion and thus make conservatism their litmus test of fidelity. Seriously, do you want to require the bulk of LDS membership to align themselves with a party that not in their own best economic interest, just so the richest Mormons can achieve their eternal goal of paying no taxes? Well, I suppose once that is done the Gospel can be better spread via private jets and yachts. Perhap future Church leaders can be someday be chosen on the polo fields of Provo.
