It's not strictly volunteer in the LDS church. There's enormous pressure to accept any and all callings, as a signifier to the tribe of your righteousness. It's not like you just go in to see the Bishop and ask to be a seminary teacher out of the goodness of your heart.

I understand this. But people can still say no. They won't lose their membership. They won't lose a temple recommend. People say no more than you think. Plenty told me no when I was a bishop. And honestly most active Mormons like serving in the church. And for many it is part of their identity.

AS, when you were asked to serve a a seminary teacher were your negative about it? Did you want to say no? Did you try to say no and did the person asking you to do this twist your arm? Or were you happy to serve and now your comment about slave labor come about because of how you feel now?

I did not say no CES people leave. Just that it is not anymore of an apostate generator than anything else might be. I was a hobby apologist when I found what I was trying to defend in the way I was defending it was no longer, at least for me, defensible.

Nope, I'm having a fine day. Feel free to keep projecting.

Jason Bourne wrote:Did my challenge about your rather jaded comment about slave labor really set you off that much?

Jason, by slave labor I meant unpaid labor. It was a joke. But in all honesty, for some reason, you get hyper sensitive when I say something that could be remotely seen as critical of anything LDS. I don't know why, you don't seem to offer these services for others, and quite frankly I no longer care.

Jason Bourne wrote:Your posts of late seem to be more and more strident.

Whatever, I don't think I ever even managed to work myself up to being strident on this board, it's simply not worth it.

Jason Bourne wrote:The rest of my post was simply clarifying how ward early morning seminary teachers today are called. Bully for them? Really?

OK, I'll break it down really slowly for you Jason.

"bully" is an adjective meaning "Excellent or spendid" If you would like some proof, try here: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/bully

So I was saying something was excellent. What could that possibly be? Maybe this:

Jason Bourne wrote:Interestingly almost every volunteer local seminary teacher I know has loved doing it.

So, let's put it all together now. Aristotle was saying it was good that volunteer seminary teachers enjoyed their jobs. Holy crap, I should be taken out and shot. Proof positive I was having a bad day I guess. In any case, feel free to continue to miss my sarcasm and to misinterpret what I say.

Hardly projecting. Though I did attend calling hours for one of my business partners today. He was a good friend. He died young at 58. It is very sad for me and there has been a lot of untimely death in my life this past year. So maybe I am having a bad day.

I hardly criticize you whevever you post anything critical of the LDS Church. Some of your criticism I agree with. And I have not been critical of anything you posted for seemingly some time. I think the last post I made towards you before this thread I agreed with you. I don't just criticize you either. I do others as well at times if in my opinion I find it worth the criticism. Honestly i find that comment ludicrous. I wish I had $100 for every time someone has accused me of that here.

Your comment did not come across as a joke nor did your bully for them commnent. They both seemed snarky to me but hey, it is easy to misinterpret on a message board. If so sorry. Thanks for going real slow for me.

Thanks AS. Really I am sorry I jumped down your throat. I know I do periodically. Not sure why. Just so you know, there are a few posters I try to read any posts that I see by them. Yours are in that group.

Dear Wife and I are eating chips and salsa with this tonight. Although, Downton Abbey is on at 9 so we are a little conflicted. What to do?

I listened to portions of the first interview and the second interview. It seems that this couple are dealing with problems on multiple levels. And some of these problems were projected onto the church. But I will need to listen to all the interviews before giving my final opinion.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.
