Yes, I'm aware of this apologetic, of recent invention in Mormonism--since the prophets stopped prophesying and the revelators stopped revelating and the seers stopped seeing and the translators stopped translating. It's an ad hoc excuse made up to try to explain why what started as a dynamic religion turned so moribund.
I reluctantly have to agree with Equality here. Modern-day Mormon prophets have been severely lacking in this department. IF they are prophets, they have remained silent in the prophecy and ultimately the "truth telling" department. As far as prophets go, I find MLK and Gandhi much more compelling prophets than their contemporary Mormon peers. Certainly if the Mormon prophets had been doing their job, they would have embraced these men and their ideals at that time. The fact they did not speaks volumes about the current state of Mormonism and the Mormon leadership.

Please excuse my asking, but were you actually brought up as a member of the CoJCoLDS?

I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis.

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

Yes, served a mission too. After that fun, I was an ex-mormon and atheist for many years. Moved far away from Mormondom because of that (I wanted nothing to do with it). Came back to Mormonism a few years ago, but I'm only interested in what truth it may contain and nothing more.

Thanks. I thought somehow that you had breathed a different air.
