I so not think it wise of us Mormons to withdraw our claim of Christianity, (without the teachings of Christ, we would be left with only the peculiarities) just because we are confronted by some nasty customers.

Yes, but from the Christian perspective Christianity is a legitimate successor to Judaism, and from the LDS perspective the Mormon Church is a legitimiate successor to Biblical Christianity. I completely understand why Biblical Christians think the LDS Church is not legitimate, but those Christians can't expect Latter-day Saints to stop asserting they are legitimate (stop asserting they are Christians any more than they can expect themselves to stop asserting that they are a legitimate successor to Judaism.
