Since Priesthood leaders can, and routinely do, issue Temple Recommends to people who pay no tithing -- because they have no income to tithe -- then the accusation that Temple Recommends are just a lever to enforce or coerce tithe payments is defeated.

There was no "information out of context." It's just the way it is.

Wow. Just wow.

If a full tithe payer is one who pays 10% of their income, we can calculate $0.00 * .10 = $0.00. If the person did in fact pay $0.00, the person has met their tithing obligation.

Not really. It can still be used as a lever to those who do make an income, but I noticed you used the word just, although no one suggested it was just a lever to get more tithing.

Themis, this is monapolegetics at its best (or worst) ....depending on if you believe defending the institution is the ultimate act of Christ like behavior.

Shameful.

So I guess, if you can't afford to pay tithing, but want to see your daughter married or confirm your boy, you should just QUIT your job...than your exaltation will be ensured.

Bc,

so talk about the law of consecration...didn't do so well did it? Ahhh, It must have been one of the church's pilot programs.

In the age of online finances, the church claims it is not set up for this, so they would prefer we go back to trying to chase down bishop and crew so they can carry envelpoes in their shirt pockets during the three hour block, and then spend more time from their families sorting, counting, and ledgering, before making ready the deposit. All by hand of course.

I call b***s***. And CFR.

I did it many times (gave recommends to non-tithepayers due to their circumstances, such as being a dependent, or not having an income)

cwald wrote:AND if, and that is a big if, you are right, that is b***s*** as well. Does that mean its all about who you know? As long as you have the right last name, no need to follow the rules. ..we got your back.

Utter b***s***.

Well, the "rules" are that even if a bishop suspects that a member who is declaring to be a full tithe-payer, may in fact not be paying a full tithing, it is his duty to officially record what status the member declares. A bishop also shouldn't (although some may do, I don't know) even ask whether a member is paying on Net or Gross. I think that perhaps large discrepancies could be tactfully questioned, because at tithing settlement one purpose is for both the bishop and member to review the member's record of donations, and for the member to verify its accuracy.

23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

Seems appropriate for the master of finer semantics.
