Re: Another Temple suicide?
I know a lot of time has passed but I couldn't bring myself to get into at the time. Thank you by the way for acknowledging the tragedy of this. Some reasons of his death are unknown however I do believe he was sending a message to the church. I don't know exactly what that message was. He told me a lot about how the Mormon religion is corrupt. He said goodbye in a video. He basicly told everyone there is a god and remember to love because it's the key to life. He loved everyone. He also spoke about lies in the Mormon church. Not specifically but generally enough for me to determine there was some sort of message from his actions.Craig Paxton wrote:I am sorry for the loss of your friend...I agree that it is a tragedy. Your friend...was sending a message to the church by taking his life in the manner that he did. By taking his life as he did in such a dramatic manner, driving into the Temple Wall, he clearly wanted to send a message...perhaps you could enlighten us with what that message may have been that he wanted to send.koliv002 wrote:Cameron was my best friend. Re: Another Temple suicide?
Good evening, All
Forgive me for reviving an old thread, but I felt compelled to make a post here...
Cameron was a dear friend of mine as well... I didn't like how all of it went down, its been bothering me for a number of years... we had mutual "friends" with whom I had conversations about what could've led to his death and when the subject of Mormonism and its short comings came up, things became uncomfortable to say the least... The funeral wasn't much different... Maybe they were offended, or perhaps I hit closer to home than they were comfortable admitting... I've had this thread bookmarked for a while after seeing koliv's post...
I recently did a Texas Public Information (TPI) request with the City of Lubbock on or about 4/23/26 to obtain information concerning his death and there were a couple of strange things that came up. I'll share summaries of the incident reports and the strangeness surrounding them. The pages and sections where this information was lifted from is annotated for reference should anyone want to look at these documents themselves.
Incident Overview
Incident Type: Traffic Fatality (p. 1)
Date & Time: December 8, 2014, at approximately 1:17 PM (p. 1)
Location: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Lubbock Temple) at 7014 Frankford Ave (pp. 1-2)
Reporting Officer: Larry Ray Barnhill (p. 1)
The Crash
A gray 2006 Hyundai Tiburon was traveling eastbound on 71st Street (pp. 4-5). The vehicle crossed Genoa Avenue, mounted the curb, and broke through a metal pole fence (pp. 5-6). It then crashed directly into a granite retaining wall on the church property (pp. 5-6).
Victim & Injuries
The Driver: Cameron Tanner Alldredge (a 25-year-old Black male) (p. 4).
Outcome: The driver was pinned inside the heavily damaged vehicle (p. 6).
Despite airbag deployment, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene at 1:36 PM (p. 6).
Response & Property Damage
Emergency Response: The vehicle caught fire after the crash (p. 6). Responding officers and the Lubbock Fire Department extinguished the flames and used the "Jaws of Life" to open the vehicle door (p. 6).
Property Damage: The crash destroyed metal fencing sections and damaged the granite landscaping architecture belonging to the church (p. 5).
Timeline of the Response
13:17 (Initial Call): A 911 call from a Verizon cell phone indicates a disturbance at the church (14-41997_O... p. 1). The caller says to send a unit to the Lubbock Temple because "it's not good," before the line disconnects (14-41997_O... p. 1). Dispatchers try calling back but get no answer (14-41997_O... p. 1).
13:21 (Dispatch): Officers Larry Barnhill (Unit 1167) and Stephen Thompson (Unit 1163) are dispatched and go en route (14-41997_O... p. 1).
13:24 (The Crash Reported): A second caller, Ashley Moncrief, updates dispatch (14-41997_O... p. 1). She reports a vehicle crashed into the fence on the back side of the church, the vehicle is smoking, and a subject is trapped (14-41997_O... p. 1).
13:27–13:28 (Arrival): Officer Barnhill arrives on the scene, followed immediately by Officer Thompson (14-41997_O... pp. 1-2).
13:29 (Emergency Requests): Officer Barnhill calls for the "Jaws of Life" extrication tool and a supervisor (14-41997_O... p. 2).13:31 (Fatality Confirmed): Unit 1163 broadcasts "Serious Code A" (typically indicating a fatality), and Accident Investigation (AI) is initiated (14-41997_O... p. 2).
Scene Management & Investigation
13:46 (Identification): Officers run a driver's license inquiry on Cameron Alldredge (14-41997_O... p. 2).
14:05 (Missing First Caller): Officers request a dispatch callback to the original 911 number, but the voice mailbox is completely full (14-41997_O... p. 4).
15:29 (Towing): Lubbock Wrecker is dispatched to remove the vehicle with a flatbed truck (14-41997_O... p. 4).
15:49–16:32 (Next of Kin): A teletype message is drafted to Amarillo Police to locate and notify the driver's next of kin at addresses on Buchanan Street and Ridgecrest Circle (14-41997_O... p. 4). By 4:32 PM, Unit 2140 cancels the teletype, confirming next of kin has been successfully notified (14-41997_O... p. 4).
16:43 (Property Security): A police watch is placed on the property location to guard the broken west fence until the church can rebuild it (14-41997_O... p. 5).
17:44 (Scene Closed): The final units clear the scene, and the dispatch log is officially closed (14-41997_O... pp. 1, 5).
1. The Mysterious First Caller (RP-1)
The Eerie Message: At 13:17, the original 911 call is placed by a male who explicitly states, "Send a unit to the Lubbock Temple... It's Not Good," before abruptly disconnecting (14-41997__... pp. 2, 5).
The Discrepancy: He called before the crash was actively reported by neighbors (14-41997__... p. 5). The second caller (Ashley Moncrief) didn't call until 13:24—seven minutes later—reporting that the car was actively smoking and the driver was trapped (14-41997_O... p. 1).
The Ghost Number: Police and dispatch tried calling the first man back multiple times (14-41997_O... p. 1, 14-41997__... p. 6). The number went straight to a full mailbox (14-41997_O... p. 4, 14-41997__... p. 6). Officer Barnhill even sent a text message but never received a reply (14-41997__... p. 6). He was never identified.
2. Conflicting Vehicle Descriptions
The Witness Report: When Ashley Moncrief called, she told dispatch the crashing vehicle "WILL BE A BLK CHEV CAVALIER" (14-41997__... p. 5).
The Reality: When police arrived, they found a completely different vehicle: a Gray 2006 Hyundai Tiburon (14-41997__... pp. 1, 5).
The Explanation: This might just be a mistake by a panicked witness looking out a window, but a black Chevrolet Cavalier and a gray Hyundai Tiburon are entirely different makes, models, and colors (14-41997__... pp. 1, 5).
3. The Severity of the Impact
The Path: The vehicle didn't just drift off the road. It crossed Genoa Ave, jumped the curb, crossed a sidewalk, smashed through a metal pole fence, crossed another sidewalk area on the church lawn, and slammed head-on into a heavy granite retaining wall (14-41997__... pp. 5-6).
The Speed: The narrative notes that the front of the vehicle suffered "EXTENSIVE damage" and the airbags "did not do much good" (14-41997__... p. 6). This indicates a highly high-velocity impact with zero braking or corrective steering before hitting the wall (14-41997__... pp. 5-6). (Photos of the vehicle's instrument cluster show the RPMs at 5500 and speedometer at 95mph at the time of impact).
4. Police Radio Codes
At 13:37, the log notes "COMMENT: CODE K" (14-41997_O... p. 2). In Texas crash data and police terminology, "Code K" (or Injury Severity K) is the official designation confirming a fatality (Killed) at the scene.
Ultimately, the most unsettling element is the unidentified first caller who knew something was terribly wrong at the temple up to 7 minutes before witnesses realized a fatal crash had just occurred (14-41997_O... p. 1, 14-41997__... p. 5). If the crash happened right around 13:24 (when the neighbor heard the loud noise and called it in), then the first 911 caller who said "It's not good" at 13:17 was calling 7 minutes before the car actually hit the wall (14-41997_O... p. 1, 14-41997__... p. 6).
(END OF SUMMARY)
Again, all of this information was released to me in redacted form by the City of Lubbock and is public information. Should anyone want this stuff, reach out and I'll see if I can't upload it. its over 430 photos, 2 incident reports, and 2 audio files of the 911 calls. The call from the unidentified caller is eerie... as if they knew what had happened/what was about to happen and didn't want to say...
This thread opened up the possibility of something being wrong and something certainly is... I've no doubt he experienced/realized something and purposely took his own life. He wasn't cut like this (as I knew him anyway), so I can only conclude something happened to him and he was in fact trying to send a message. It is my hope this information will help someone else find closure, or at least answer some questions.
RIP Cameron Tanner Alldredge.

Re: Another Temple suicide?
In terms of the vehicles, from what I’ve seen the car involved was a dark grey and the two vehicles (Tiburon and Cavalier) are similar enough for an eye witness to confuse the two from a distance when only partially visible. So personally I don’t see any mystery there.
In terms of the timeline. I’m not seeing that the first unidentified caller made their call before the crash. They made their call seven minutes before the second caller, but there’s no indication that the second caller witnessed the crash and called straight away. Rather it reads that the second witness is reporting the scene from a moment after the accident had taken place. So I’m not seeing the mystery in the timeline.
The fact that the first witness remains unidentified suggests they used an unregistered phone. So clearly they didn’t want to be identified. There might be a number of reasons for that witness reporting seeing the crash but not wanting to be involved with the police. If one was speculating a little, I see that you could make the case that this was the victim himself placing the call and ditching the phone immediately before crashing the car.
Are you finding it hard to come to terms with your friends death? Have you tried speaking to someone to help you process this?

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

I appreciate the insight. I guess its just different being on this side, I see things a little different. Seeking counseling/therapy for my work related traumas over the past few years is actually what got me to the point where I wanted to do this and was able... Im at peace with him being gone, its the circumstances that still make me ask questions, that's all.

Well I hope talking about it out loud on this board is helpful rather than troubling for you. I suppose it’s the unanswered question about “why” that prevents proper closure for you. Had your friend left an explanation for his actions, maybe it would be more straightforward for you to process. But it might not. It might cause more conflict and blame allocation.
I do feel sad that someone was in a situation where they felt that taking their own life was the best option. It happens far too frequently.

Re: Another Temple suicide?
Reminds me of one of my favorite lines from Hitchens’ book that he quotes from George Elliot: “for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."
It’s sad that his memory will live primarily on through this event which was clearly so painful for him. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, but I am glad at least a few people have spoken about how he was before this.
