A qualifying statement: I think technological advancement differs in substance from technological expansion. The latter replacing the former is one potential way we could see technological advancement undone to at least some extent, in my opinion.

There are accumulated risks under our feet. The longer we go without a nuclear cold war, the easier it is to become complacent about just how close thermonuclear holocaust still is. Complacency increases the odds of it being triggered. Increasing population size and mobility has created conditions ideal for a devastating pandemic. But, generally speaking, people on average are living better, longer, safer lives than they ever have at any point in the history of the world.

This can also be seen in the growing tendency of people to dismiss the importance of vaccinating their children. Thanks to decades of widespread, routine vaccination, we have been free of debilitating epidemics for so long that the most recent generation has never experienced or witnessed one. Thus it is all too easy for them to be complacent about vaccinations and dismiss their necessity or even the proven benefits of vaccination.
