I think it's a bit of an exaggeration to say Jersey Girl felt threatened. It appeared to me that Dan Peterson was under more of a threat than Jersey Girl ever was and to that end, I sent Dan an email to let him know what had happened. Jersey Girl, on the other hand, felt more like I did - a little pissed that Derrick was allowed to continue.

Not buying, not for a minute, that Jersey Girl felt any fear for her safety.

Your perception is incorrect, she DID feel threatened. When the moderator failed to take any action she felt she had no choice but to try and do something about the situation. And for that, she was punished.

I think you didn't like being given an ultimatum and I don't blame you, Jersey Girl's a forceful personality at times so it's no surprise if it upset you. I can understand your reaction, BUT: Your annoyance with her and your decision to do nothing until consulting Shades also provoked her to an action she wouldn't have otherwise taken(and should not have had to). I don't think you meant to make the situation worse, but frankly, you did.

It was clear Darrick was a problem and nothing was done to contain or avert what ultimately took place. Shades bears the most responsibility for that decision.

I hope Jersey Girl comes back, because when she does, I'm going to question her incessantly, at every opportunity, about this.

I am certain that she still has contact with people from MDB (After all, she had been a member of this community for 10 years now), but that hardly results in her ability to reply (should she wish to) to the direct and personal accusations about her character, her motives, and her reputation that is being challenged/questioned all over this 30 plus page thread.

I did not hear Jersey Girl's version, I came to the conclusions I did from reading the threads here. It's pretty clear that this whole mess started because a poster felt threatened and when she complained, nothing was done. I understand that Shades likes to believe he has set up a 'free speech' board, but I don't believe many of us thought that included threats of violence against other posters.

The truth is, this is Shades' board and it's only 'free speech' as far as he allows. If the speech crosses his line of comfort, it's bannable, as what happened with Moniker years ago, but in this instance he refused to act. I think it does have to do with the fact that Jersey Girl has been critical of him at times and he is inclined to cut her any slack, stubbornly insisting she was threatening to harm the board, rather than recognize that she felt threatened and she wanted something done about Darrick, not something done to the board.

Darrick has been a powder keg ready to blow for a long time and Shades turned a blind eye to it. He also left his moderators in a difficult and thankless position, refusing to allow them to deal with problem posters when necessary.

Once again, it is Shades board, if he wants to run it this way he can. But he'll live with the negative consequences to his carefully crafted cyber image, in my opinion.
