Can you explain why you think RFM is a con artist?
He has indicated that he is interested in winding down his practice and looking for full-time work by criticizing the Mormon church. And he plans to accomplish this by soliciting monetary contributions from members of online communities such as this one. This means that he is putting himself in a position where he will have to continually criticize the church and its members in order for him to maintain the satisfaction of the people who tithe to him. He is a con artist because he pretends to sell the truth to people who are having a hard time separating themselves from their religious affiliations. Con artists such as RFM, in my opinion, are instructing former Mormons on how to damage their relationships with family members who continue to practice the faith.
I can kind of see this argument with John Dehlin but I struggle to see how anyone who has watched or listened to RFM over the years can interpret him that way.
I get the impression that it’s the other way around. More and more Mormons are becoming familiar with the facts about their religion which makes it much easier for them to get along with non Mormons. It’s very difficult if Mormons are still under the mistaken belief that their church never lies or was wrong. Once that common fact is established it makes it much easier to talk about religion without hurt feelings.
The alternative is to allow Mormons to continue living unchallenged in a bubble which will only prolong the pain and hurt relationships. I applaud RFM and bill laying out the facts in a plain a way as possible every week. I think it’s having a very positive effect.
After reading through this thread in its entirety, I have a much better understanding of how ignorant ex-Mormons can be when they constantly ridicule Mormons for having their beliefs misguided or for being mentally unstable. Because in regards to whatever it is that ex-Mormons believe in, you guys are not any better than any of the faithful Mormons that I am familiar with. In point of fact, the people who post on this forum regularly are a living example of why you ought not to walk away from the church. I believe the majority of Mormons would agree with what I have to say. Let me see! If I had to choose between a life spent believing in the teachings of Joseph Smith or a life spent preaching against the teachings of Joseph Smith while being unable to spend a single waking moment not being obsessed with Mormonism, I would choose the former.
Thanks for posting that, Lowrance. It is always good to see certain basic assumptions restated. Such as:
People with whom I generally agree generally agree with me.
Our decisions are validated by the fact that we don’t like what we see among people who don’t agree with us.
If only people who did not agree with us could be like us, there would be nothing to disagree about.

Sounds like you’ve followed him enough to give his business a boost whether you donated funds or not. I like rfm’s show. I think he’s honest and works hard at giving listeners a good product. I don’t know what you mean by “pretends to sell the truth”. Sounds like quite an accusation. Do you have any information to meet the burden you’ve put on yourself with the accusation?

And if anyone could explain to me why there is so much animosity directed towards jpatterson, that would be greatly appreciated.
Because he’s a roaring asshole, mostly.
You’re welcome.
Thank you very much, Prophet RFM. Please go now and make a new video so that you can spend the first five minutes of it pleading with people to give you money, just like the brethren do during general conference. You may be able to fool all the former Mormons, but you can't fool me, you charlatan.
