I heard that there were, The sealed portion of the Book of Mormon, Those glassed, the urim and thummin.

Personaly I doubt there even is a vault.

I was told my understanidng was not correct and they are not in the Church vault, or anywhere else in the possession of the Church.

Thanks for that list Phaedrus.

And who is "someone in a position to know"? Are we to rely on your vague representation? Not persuasive (as usual).

But as an aside, I would not think that the Urim and Thummim would be in the vault, since they are purely mythical and never existed. Same with the sword of Laban and the breastplate and all the other made-up stuff.

I had previous read somewhere that the usage of the Urim and Thummin was a story tacked on about a decade after the writing of the Book of Mormon. Is this not a later legend? The Urim and Thummin were two stones with Hebrew letters written on both sides attached to a breastplate. It was something mentioned back in the Old Testament, but not in connection with translating plates. These were inanimate objects. I thought the true power came from God Himself.

Amen. Sometimes it's really weird when I'm the card carrying member of the church around here.

Absolutely, charity! I, for one, am glad that you're here. Without active LDS this place is just one long head nodding session. Well almost...

And Infymus, there is a way to put folks on "ignore". It's called ignoring them.

I'm happy charity is here. I may not always appreciate her tone and her snide remarks, but I'm glad she's here.

I quite admire "snide". Not that you'd notice....
