I know that feeling well. I talk to my friends who are active, and they all did stuff I never would have done when they were younger. My friend who works at the COB told me about his days of getting drunk every Friday night the summer after his mission. Other people tell me of their sexual exploits and Word of Wisdom issues, and I wonder why I was the only one who took things seriously. But it makes sense to me that they stayed and I left. They didn't take it seriously and still don't, to some extent.

There was one particular guy in my High School who I have little respect for. He was a "supposed" leader in his Priesthood Quorum. I happen to know that he not only got drunk every weekend, but encouraged other young men to do the same. His reasoning was that he would "live it up" and then confess, repent, and go on a mission when he was 19. That's exactly what he did.

The problem is, a good friend of mine who took his advice ended up with alcohol addiction problems and couldn't just "repent and go later". He went through a horrible withdrawl process, and I'm honestly not sure if he ever did go on a mission.

The sad thing is, this "ring leader" is now in the bishopric.

Sad.

Here's my view:

1) Young people will always be young people....they will be horny and some of them will have sexual activities.

2) The young people grow up and some of them will "forget" that they were horny young men and women and will hypocritically say that young people are screwed up for being horny.

3) In the meantime their kids will grow up to be horny young people.

Basically young people will always be horny.

Maybe if they could just figure out a way to stop the hormones ... :-)

Maybe the Church could sponsor a Junior Anti-Sex League or something, you know, to get the Youth back on track.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Whether you're doing x,y,z, it's still fornication. If you think about it, even French kissing could be considered a form of 'invasion'
hence the "I won't kiss until I get married..." deal that some LDS girls used to adhere to a couple of decades ago.

French kissing invasion. Hmmmmm.

As I grew older - 20 to 35 - I kept in touch with a lot of the guys I hung out with in the Church. We went to stake dances and did stuff together. Everyone basically had steady girlfriends (Mormon) except me. I later learned that some were having sex all through high school and blessing the sacrament on sunday. other's were doing everything but vaginal penetration. I used to shake my head and laugh. One person wrote here - that religion gets basically good people to do bad things. Lying is a bad thing. The standards that the Church holds for young people are rarely followed - which causes a pretty honest kid to lie to avoid shame and boy will this church shame you if you admitt to having sex outside of marriage. If you IMAGINE everyone else is perfect then you just give a perfect history back to your bishop. Note that the standard they have now was never followed in the early church as they wrote their own rules...and don't believe charity that Joseph Smith was held to a higher standard. Oliver Cowdery had higher standards than Joseph Smith.

I heard that there was a saying at BYU: stay moral go oral (voice of Hinckley) " I don't know we teach that"

I had this one girlfriend in high school who I really liked, and we were completely chaste. But we did french kiss. Being a teen-age guy, I naturally/physically desired more but it was wrong of course, so I never went there. Then, she has a lesson in young womens about how french kissing is a form of fornication because a part of you is entering into each other (so I'm fornicating if I stick my pinky in her ear?). And so ended the french kissing. I was very sad, but I couldn't get mad at her for wanted to be more righteous.

Yes, Seth, I missed out on a bunch too! But even though I doubt things now days, I still plan on teaching my children the same values about sex that I was taught, however, without so much pressure and guilt. And if they decide to explore a little more than I did, it won't be the end of the world and I won't wish they were dead (okay, a slightly over the top dig).

My boyfriend was also taught that french kissing was "like unto" fornication, because of the action of the tongue entering the mouth. I don't remember being taught that about french kissing, but I certainly thought it was wrong because I confessed it one time.

I also took it very seriously, as did my boyfriend. Both of us were totally chaste Mormons. But I do know that some Mormons follow the "party now, repent later" philosophy. I was shocked when my exhusband, who had been married briefly at the age of 19, told me that he and his first wife (his high school sweetheart) had been having sex all throughout high school. Part of what shocked me about it is that he didn't tell me this until we'd been married around ten years. (yet he grilled me about my sexual experience prior to my joining the church at 19, bleeping hypocrite)

No, and I don't feel like I missed out or whatever. I think it made my life easier.
