I haven't paid a dime in tithing since my college days, and have always had enough money for my family's needs, so I don't see how paying would have made anything better. We've even received a few unexpected windfalls that others may have chalked up to a tithing reward.
At the same time, whenever asked, we have helped out some of our tithe-paying relatives who have had a hard time making ends meet. It's possible that they considered our assistance to be one of those instances of 'the Lord' providing for them because of their obedience to the principle. Wouldn't it be ironic if they testified to that effect in one of their meetings.

I was suggesting that it didn't matter if one paid tithing or not, thay would still diciplin themselves to spend what they could afford. I had the same amount of beans left regardless the number of slices of toast. And the latter part, they probably do. Unless they are a hypocrit and wouldn't like to admit to having to recieve help from family members. Or they could just be keeping it quite because that is what the lord would have them do.
