Let's accept that as true, in which case, if you have a testimony, what are you doing outside the Church?
Or is that a bald faced lie, and are you lying only to me, or to yourself and God as well?

Past tense, HAD a testiphony. Once I realized it was based on group expectations and was a self induced emotional epiphany based upon half truths and out right lies, I came to my senses and realized it would be damaging to force my children to be coerced into feeling their own emotional epiphany, which they would then base the rest of their lives on this fallacious feeling.Coggins7 wrote:Let's accept that as true, in which case, if you have a testimony, what are you doing outside the Church?

I am the father of a large family and I decided it was time to break the cycle.
Our family has never been happier and Lidia is a new woman who left behind the guilt and depression that Mormonism saddled her with.
The greatest moment in our post Mormon life was when my youngest daughter past by the age of eight without passing through the turnstile in the Mormon baptismal font. I look forward to the up and coming other children and their eighth birthdays!

Neither did you. Otherwise you would not be here, and would not be still dodging alcoholism after 20+ years.Coggins7 wrote:As I thought, you never had a testimony at all. Your description clearly belies that.
Additionally, for someone who claims that the care taking of a sick wife keeps you from full attendance at LDS meetings, you sure do have tons of time devoted to this board.

We already knew you never served a mission. Anyone who had would never doubt that these are common hijinks among missionaries. They're 19 years old, many never having lived away from home before - mission presidents have their hands full trying to control their impulsive behavior.
The fact that you still drink is informative on a couple of points. One is that I have suspected, in the past, that you may have been posting while "under the influence". The second information it gives is in regards to the strength of your "testimony". It's strong enough to motivate you to post on internet boards, but not strong enough to actually go to church and stop drinking.
The testimony I received, OTOH, as an investigator, was more than enough incentive to immediately quit smoking, stop associating with drinking friends, and go to church regularly. Of course, today I do not believe an external "god" was the source of that testimony, but I imagine that whatever I experienced must have been stronger than what you've experienced, given the fact that you can't manage to live up to your claimed fervent beliefs.
This isn't the first time we've discovered that one of the church's more ardent and strident defenders turned out to be inactive, by the way. Interesting phenomenon. Perhaps you all think that your fervent defense of the church will compensate for your other sins in god's eyes? Or perhaps the person you're really trying to convince is yourself?

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

That's not what you asked him, Loran. Your question was as follows:
"Did you ever receive a testimony of the Gospel?"
To which he replied:
"Yes, I did".
Why do you misrepresent what he's stated? Just curious how you work that out in your mind.
