Well, have you ever been attracted to a 65 year old man? There are women that are. Right? Is that viewed as difficult to understand, for you? Why is it difficult for you to grasp that people, other than yourself, have sexual attractions that you may not have?

I understand that people may have attractions. It's just not as clear as if one had actually experienced it. My point being that I wasn't sure at first glance if pedophiles were just sadistic or that nature had played a trick on them.

It seems as though you've made the standard for morality, whatever causes pain to others.

That's an oversimplification.

Can you elaborate on what the standard is then?

Several National news stories regarding men having sex with young girls and teenagers are being reported in the news today

Our culture since the sixties...are we surprise?

Since the sixties? Umm Loren, just a little FYI, men have been raping girls for a lot longer than a few decades.

TD, i think Loran means, until the 60's girls/women didn't charge/cry rape. They just accepted intercourse when it came with forceful persuiasion. Whatever the level of 'friendship' that got them into position, there were expectations that went with the circumstances. "She asked for it..." was an accepted response to any post pains be they physical or psyche.

("She'll get over it. They always do." Al to his young brother Scotty in Growing Up)

That the past was an altogether gentler society is simply mythological. Teachers beat students. Fathers ruled their families with an authoritarian, iron hand. Hence child protection laws. School yard, and street fist-fights were the norm. Learning-to-fight came before learning yer A-B-Cs

"Coming-across", being "made" was too often just considered an initiation of a girl into reality. Incest was more common than was made public.

Fathers--and mothers--were all too aware of the male proclivity. Hence overly protective parents, and chastity belts. The latter more intended to foil the male, than to stay the passions of the female. I hope i'm not being too blunt. Reality and truth are not always "nice". But denial and apologetics are worse, IMSCO... Roger

You make a good point Roger in how children were treated in times past. Children practically own their parents these days, especially if the parents are divorced. Many young people now leave to the real world and are disillusioned with life. Leaving home means that life is going to get much worse. Whereas for orphans like my Grandmohter, leaving home was probably similar to a slave being set free.

Think how bizarre the rape premise for The Fantastiks is now. El Gallo would share a cell with Warren Jeffs.
