Really? Everyone? I guess someone should have told my pal who didn't get to go. One counter example ruins your blanket statement.

Yes. To create this illusion the Church has restricted more people from going. Good call.
Oh no--in the Church it is always the fault of the individual. If they raise the bar, it is the fault of the young people for not living up to it. Don't you know that the Church is always innocent?
Since the Church is composed of people I guess I don't see it that way, since people aren't perfect.
That's exactly what I am saying. You see, the Church is never at fault. If there are any problems it is because of the imperfect people who can't get it right. Any failed program, policy, false statement, cover-up, aggressive business tactics, misspending of funds, etc. is always the fault of these poor imperfect people. The anything and everything can be done by the Church and it will never, ever be the fault of the Church.

The Church doesn't exist without the people; it is the people.

On what grounds was your pal prevented from going?

I think that's his business, Ms. Scratch. But I assure you, said "pal" exists and said "pal" did not go on a mission. (And it's not me, parenthetically.)

If you get someone pregnant you can't go. There is a boy here in my stake and they told him he was too fat. I felt bad for him - he is not really all that fat.

Oh, sure, I believe you. It's just that your lack of an answer (despite your pal's anonymity) doesn't really do anything to disprove and discredit Dr. Shades's theory (at least the latter portion of it). Or do you have any real evidence that the "bar" has been raised?

Actually this reminds me: I am aware of at least 3 people who could not serve missions for various reasons. So much for the "they let them all go anyway" thing. Even 3 contradicts that assertion.

Fair enough, but what does it do to demonstrate that the Brethren were telling the truth about "raising the bar"?

That they did.
